99 4x4 Limited w elocker Is it worth it ??

Thinking about jumping in .. Has a clean carfax ... with services noted religiously....Is it worth 8000 ??? That is what I am going to try and talk them too anyway ... I will have to fly and bring it home

That's pretty damn rusty under there for being a stock 4-runner that doesn't look like it's seem many trails... That would make me a bit iffy
 
Yes it is. If the timing belt has been done I'd see it as a good deal. Use the rust as a negotiating point. If you are moderately handy, buy some por15 and go to town underneath with the rust. The condition of that body and interior makes it worth it in my book.
 
1st off, Rust is character, 2nd off, there isn't that much, just from that pic there isnt too much on the axle and a great way to guage how bad the rust is, would be to look at the spare rim, and there is still quite a bit of paint on it, from what i see, that truck is worth right around what they are asking.
 
Too rusty for me, but then again I live in CA so any rust is too much. I agree with John tho, it looks like it may not be cancerous, just surface rust. Like he said, use it as your negotiating point. With <100K miles, if not for the rust, it would sell for a lot more than $8K IMO. If you can clean most of it off, you will really score. Maybe someone on here that's close by can do a little recon for ya before you fly out there.
 
That is a great 4runner! The rust looks bad because it's so orange, but from all the signs I see, it's just surface. I've owned two completely opposite examples of 4runners when it comes to rust. My first 96 was from TX and completely 100% rust free. My current '99 is from Boston.....and it is pretty bad. The frame is fine, but I just had to have the panhard bar mount welded because it was rotten. My spare wheel is a flaky mess. Every singe non-aluminum piece under the hood is rusty.

I've been treating everything with Fluid Film, and I really like it. Besides the panhard mount needing fixed, I'm about 90% sure I'm not going to have any strength or structural issues....you just have to stay on top of it and keep it treated. So if you're prepared to deal with the little extra upkeep...and the possibility of breaking seized bolts off when trying to work on stuff.....that's as great 4runner.
 
You know I do believe you guys have about talked me into it ... I just sent the guy an offer ... I will let you know how it goes ...
 
It's a good deal. Rust doesn't look bad to me. Then again, all of my cars look like that eventually (MN and WI resident). Good luck!
 
A year ago I paid $8800 for mine with 163k on it. I had a trade in and mine was a one owner. Mine is a local truck with zero rust though.

Seems like a good deal since it has under 100k on it. That same rig in my area would sell for $10k+ (with no rust of course)
