'99 coils installed on Easter day

I had a busy weekend...I installed the '99 tall coils & Tokico shocks on my Wifes '97 4Runner.

Was not as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, I am not in the "rust belt", so nothing was rusted on.

Overall, it would seem I gained an inch all the way around, as other people have reported for the '97 upgrade.

Pictures are Before and After, in order.

Measurement pictures are drivers side, rear.

The ride is much improved. The old shocks were totally worn out. Much smoother on the road, cornering is better, much less body roll, etc... The stance looks way better than the pictures can show. I noticed an improvement, but my Wife couldn't tell a thing had been done. Oh well

Yeah, that's what I think they are too.

Looks good though.

It's funny. I'm sitting at 36" in the front and 36 1/2" in the rear.

Here's the fronts, before and after.

I have heard that the amount of actual lift does vary by a little bit.
Could also have something to do with actual tire diameter vs what is on the sidewall, which varies by tire brand and amount of wear / miles.

hey topdown, do you have 2wd or 4wd? cause there is supposed to be some 2wd rear fix with the 99 coils, according to sonoran steel? and are you using the oem tokicos or tokico trekmasters?. it looks good btw

did you use the factory bolt (not the tokico one) for the top of your front shock...read many things about them stripping and the oem is needed. i don't know if that has been changed thru tokico. what model # are your front and rears if you don't mind me asking of the trekmasters? how much and where did you get them through. when i do the 99 coils, i was thinking of adding a 10mm ome trim packer to the rear to give just a tad extra lift if you wanted that. im going to do it. thanks

I had no problems with the Tokico nut on top of the shocks. I did not use the Toyota ones.

It is the Wife's 4Runner, and she did not want any more lift, or rake from the back.

so the trekmasters ride nicely in the street? can you say if they are a little firm or soft or maybe a mix. im looking for a smooth street ride since this will also be for the wife and kids. i don't want something too firm to jitter them around. no offroading for me strictly street. thanks. i was debating regular oem tokicos but if the treks are better for street then ill go that route. thanks

Hmmm....hard to say, since I was replacing completely worn out shocks that were installed by the previous owner. I replaced air shocks in back and SensaTrack struts up front. I don't know how stock Tokico's feel to be able to answer your question correctly.

I can say without a doubt that the ride softened up quite a bit with the Trekmasters. It did ride quite hard before.

BTW,
this is my Wife's truck, a daily driver. It never goes off road. That is not what I was after when I got her new shocks and springs.
She is only 5' 2", so a bouncy ride really throws her around.

thanks for info....i have 2wd. i think i found out that 2wd and 4wd rears are the same shocks but the front use different part #s for the treks.

I purchased them online from a Fort Bend Toyota's online ordering system.
I broke up my purchase so I could get free shipping, and not go over the weight limit.
Fort Bend Parts

I did a lot of looking for price, and I could not beat this.
I have a friend who can get 'Yota parts 10% over dealer cost, and he could not beat this.

I am looking at getting the '99 coils. Correct me if I am wrong... didn't they only have the tall coils for the first half of production for the 99's? If so, how can you tell when you are ordering the coils if they are the tall coils or not?

I am actually on the Ft Bend website as we speak. it looks like $304.02 total for all 4.

Here are part #s for the springs i found on another site. I ordered the rear springs from Fort Bend. Just type in the part # on the main screen and it should just link you to the item. if you search for parts, i don't think it lists part#s that way. only if you type in the part #. i actually just received my rear tall 99 springs a couple days ago from fort bend. fyi it takes about a month to receive your order. im not going with front 99 springs tho, im going to use a daystar 1.5" front spacer and use 99 tall coils in rear. i feel this would ride well for me for the street. i didn't have enough to spend for all rear coils. good luck.
