99+ Console Swap — Preparation, Revelations and Contemplations...

Prepping for my upcoming 99+ console swap. I pulled the donor console out of a junkyard so it looked a bit rough. I decided to spruce it up a bit with some paint.

Not perfect, but good enough for me.

Might even do the dash gauge and ignition bezels too so they all match.

Even though a big part of this mod is just for the cup holders, I also plan to purchase one of Bhicks laser printed cup holders too. This 8-cup combo should leave me completely prepared for the possibility of having 7 thirsty clowns as passengers. I work in a circus....it could happen.



One thing that has been bugging me about my 97 — is the shift indicator bubbled up at some point and now looks like crap. So when I was pulling the console out of the junkyard, I grabbed the whole shifter "thingy" too.

As I was cleaning it up a bit, I noticed that instead of swapping the whole thing over, I could pop out just the bubbled up part with the letters. This saved me from having to undo the shift handle and disassemble the over-drive button to get the whole piece off.

So if anyone else has been irked because the shift indicator is all bubbled up — this is an easy fix.

Yeah my truck is dirty....it's a truck.



Lastly, for anyone else who has done the console swap, specifically what black plastic pieces need to be cut down on the bottom? And how far do they need to be trimmed?

You also have to swap the parking brake lever, and the mount under the console.

I'm just reusing my bracket. Not swapping it out. It's my understanding that a few small modifications is all that's needed to make the original sit at the correct angle.

I owned a rusted out 2000 that was my donor vehicle - I could take whatever was needed. Also had to move the rear window, ect switch and RS3000 glass break sensor to the cowl by my left knee.

I'll be re-routing the wiring for the ECT, rear window and alarm to the open slots left of the wheel as well.

I almost grabbed the whole parking break lever and bracket from the junkyard (I actually disassembled it) but then decided I didn't want to pay the junkyard for it when I could mod the existing one, so I left it there.

If I recall, you just unbolt the bracket, then move/bend the bracket to the right and mark the spot where the new hole needs to be — then drill it and use a self threading screw to hold it there.
