99 Grille mod

Hey Everyone. Lately I really been taking an interest into all the sweet grill mods people on here have done. So working with what I got and not getting to carried away with spend a whole lot of $$$$ on a grille, I decided to take at my 99 grille.

I found some decent gutter guard sheets in a 5 pack for $15 and went from there. I cut the ribs out of the grill and fitted the mesh in. The gutter guard sheets came with these hinge clips that worked great for snapping the mesh to the back side of the grille.

Just thought Id share. I searched and really never found to many people who have went this route with a grille. just wondering what everyone thinks of it.

It looks really good! Nice job! I was originally thinking about doing something similar with my 2000 grill, but I recently decided to just order a 98 grill so I could do the Satoshi mod

I like the mesh you chose there and the general style, but I think I'd spray satin or flat black on the mesh personally - it's less blingy

I was going to do this to my 02 sport, but decided to buy a 96 grill at the junkyard. But a very well job you did sir! I would also paint it a darker color so it is less blingy. But good job none the less.

Well I took everyone's advice and painted the mesh on my grille Black. I like it much better and it looks a lot less blingy.

The grille looks great painted black. I may have to do this soon.

Also noticed that your tire ware is worn on the inside more than the outside.

May want to get an alignment.

But great job on the grille mod!!

I like the Satoshi mod, but it seems like everyone is doing it. I really like this mod, you did great with it. Guess I'll see what kind of gutter mesh my local Lowe's has in stock. Thanks for the great idea.

Your grille looks really good! I thought about doing the same to my 1999 grille but decided to wait for a 1996-1998 grille. Also I was wondering how your fabtech coil overs handle? I got some used a couple of months ago and am hesitant to put them on based on some reviews.

Thanks, Yeh they were worn bad when I got them used last year pretty much looked the same but I agree the thing need an alignment asap as it handles like a hog.

I agree with you on the Satoshi mod, they do look awesome but I see them a fair amount. I was thinking of it as I do have a 96 grille on my parts truck. my thoughts were if this didn't come out well I would do that as a back up as the gutter mesh was super cheap and I still have a lot left over.

Thanks! Honestly I have nothing bad at all to say about my fabtech coils. Compared to my buddy's toytech coils I find the ride is no better or worse actually. I have had them on for a year and a half with zero issues and I havent been totally easy on it either. I also hesitated a little when I ordered them and started reading up on them, but I think a lot of the problem was from what I read and heard was it was people who knew a buddy that had another buddy who had them on his rig and oh geez they were a piece of cr@p. Id say If you have them whats the harm of putting them on if you don't like them for some reason take them off and either get something new or go back stock.

looks great gornish_hick

Any interest in doing this for others on the forum? hint hint

It's funny, I cut holes in my fenders for side markers but cutting up my grille scares the bejeezus out of me...

If I had the spare time to do some for others I defiantly would, but my spare time is hard to come by.

If your interested in doing it I most certainly would be willing to help you through it. It wasn't hard to do at all, Just take your time and plan ahead so nothing gets messed up.

I was a little worried about it when i started hacking away, but I figured if I screwed up I would just get a new one and not tell anyone haha

I've been waiting on money :hurt:
but I just graduated and got lots of money :boink: so i'm going to be installing the lift on Friday! thanks for the good feeedback on the coils! i hope your future mods go good!

Looks really good man! I was on the fence about doing the Satoshi mod too.... which is why I opted to keep my "T" logo, and added at TRD badge. :D

Did mine for roughly $15.00..... also used the same roll of mesh I bought, to do my 05 Taco.... did the same thing... "T" logo, and TRD badge.

I'm stealing this design. I have been going back and forth between something like this or the Satoshi. Where did you buy the mesh?

Looks awesome man. I am looking to make one similar too, but with no center - like the Satoshi mod, but whatever. I used to make these mesh grilles on VW's back in the mid-90s for Kamei too...great mod, thinking I will paint the outer sections body colored like ripcord's truck too....

Defiantly one of my biggest decision makers of going this route was to keep the logo and that TRD badge does look sick on your grille!

Do er up! I had a really hard time finding the mesh. searched every local hardware sore here. Being in Canada store selection is sort of minimal, but luckily to say I found the Mesh at a Canadian Tire store.

Thanks! Wicked plan make sure you put some pics up when its all done!

That looks really good. How did you attach the mesh to the grille? I can't tell from the pictures if it is attached to the very back or formed to fit in the areas on top and bottom of the center piece.

I bent the mesh 90 degree and made it followed the edges of the grille to the back. had 1/2 inch to bend up and over the back side of the gap edge and I clipped it to the grille with the hinge clips that came with the mesh, which worked perfect and made for a tight fit.

Thank you for the inspiration and Saturday activity. I had been considering this for a while but didn't know how it would look with this grille. I'm really happy with the outcome.
