If it's clean, not rusty, and needs little reconditioning, it'll bring $5k-$5.5k at the auction. And once recon'd, it would be worth $8k retail at a dealership. Private party, it would be worth $6.5k-$7k.

An average condition green SR5 with 207K miles sold for $4200 at auction on 5/31/11. And an above average condition one with 98K miles sold for $6900 at auction on 6/15/11. Wholesale prices are decent, but I rarely see any good condition 3rd gen 4Runners at auction any more. They're usually only there because they are really rough or have an issue or issues.

well it went through.looks like they wanted 6.5k someone bidded upto 5,300 and dealer said takes 6,500. I was thinking 4ish

I was going to ask for more details ...

Limited ?
4x4?
Locker?

At 165k there is a lot of maintenance coming up. You are much better off at 100k miles.

The selling dealer would take $6k. Too much, unless it's immaculate. If he can't get it rolled in the next several weeks, he'll go lower. Keep an eye on it....it'll probably run again in the following weeks.

WTF, was this a Norwegian auction or something? All this "reserve price" stuff is a bunch of wussy BS. An auction is an auction, the damn things sells for what it sells for. Dealer is a pansy.

ROFL. I wish it worked that way. Probably 75% of vehicles sold at dealer auctions have minimum prices. And if you're not keen....you can get run by the auctioneer, who's trying to get a certain price. But there's always haggling. If I bid a car thats on the block up to $15k, and I'm the final bidder, the auctioneer might say it takes 16. So I offer 15.2. If the seller is on the block too, he'll come back with 15.5. I'll say 15.3. Maybe we get it done, maybe not. Lots of variables in play.

Usually the auctioneer will "IF it" if the owner is not on the block. And in order for them to "IF IT" it has to be with $1,000. They started at $7,000 then dropped to 6 then 5 then 4 then bidding went up from $4k to $5,300. Here are 2 pics

Im happy with my t4r, going to throw in some amsoil motor oil and amsoil atf, new koyo and couple more things to keep her healthy

A couple of months ago when I was looking for my 4Runner, if I had seen a 99 Highlander 5Speed with an Elocker up for auction and in great shape I would have brought 7.5K with me given the guy 6.5K and drove home with it in a heartbeat.

Drove good,I noticed small clunk in the front end, probably end links? Everything was stock except for alpine cd player in it

Buy it, front end clunk is shouldnt be too expensive, LCA bushings could be shot, LBJ's could be going, tie rod end, strut bushings and struts, all stuff that should be replaced fairly soon anyway...

Everything is expensive at auction right now. Manheim is more of a retail auction it seems like lately!! Haven't been able to buy anything cheaply.
