After many months of searching (5 to be exact) I finally got my 4runner! It's a 1999 5spd Highlander all stock with 111,000 on the clock. No rust to speak of and really good shape overall. I'm really liking it so far, but I've got a few issues I was hoping the collective here could help with:
1) When driving it after it has sat for a few days it pulls really hard to the left. It feels really squirmy and bouncy at speed when its doing this. After driving a few freeway miles (it took about 15 this morning) it clears up and the truck goes back to being mild mannered and easy to drive. Ideas? Maybe a sticky brake? I looked at the axle seals this morning and couldn't find any signs of leakage or fluid on the drums.
2) When I put the truck in reverse to back into my parking spot at work this morning the check engine light came on and the truck wouldn't move. No scary noises but it felt like it was binding, like when you leave a 4WD vehicle in 4 and try to turn sharp/park on dry pavement. I was definitely in 2WD, and restarting the car and moving forward in 1st seemed to clear it up.
I've already learned so much about these trucks from T4R.org, yotatech, ih8mud, etc. The wealth of knowledge so readily available is one of the reasons this car was so appealing in the first place! Hopefully I can contribute some cool stuff to the boards in the future, for now I would really appreciate some help!
