99 Limited 4x4 Valve Rattle

My 99 Limited 4x4 (214k miles) just ate a #3 cylinder NGK spark plug tip and now there is a serious valve rattle (I think). Compression is 160 with all others 190+ psi. Either the tip is still in the valve or it has bent the valve. We looked through the spark plug hole and saw a mark from the tip on the piston, but no tip left. It is sbout 3/4" long and may be stuck. My mechanic says it should pass through. Is there a diagnosis without pulling the head? Can I see the valves if I pull the exhaust manifold? Any other ideas?

3/4" long and he says it will pass??? It may at some point but if you want to jackhammer the combustion chamber and the top of the piston, leave it in there. Why did the plug break? If the white part around the tip cracked, it is probably getting coolant in the cylinder which would/could make your plug crack inside like that. You will probably need to remove the head anyways to fix whatever broke the plug in the first place
