‘99 Limited Heater Issues

I did a few searches but couldn’t find any describing my specific problem. Last night something started rattling under my dash on the passenger side (my gf said it sounded like an animal growling). It only did it with the air blowing but stopped after a few minutes. About an hour later the vents on that side stopped blowing hot. Driver side still blows pretty warm but not like they used to. Anyone have an ideas? I’m really hoping to not have to pull the heater core out.

Heater core is the last thing you go to. The noise is a clue that something maybe broke off. What kind of testing have you done? Does the air move to the appropriate vents when you change the mode button? The 1st thing you would do would be to drop the blower motor down and check the condition of the radial fan. That may be your problem. If that looks good you then can look up inside the box with a light and an inspection mirror and see if your damper doors are working.

Drop the blower motor and see if anything (mouse nest, leaves, who knows) is all plugged up in the fan blade.

It seems to be working a little better this morning, if only slightly. The mode button switches the vents like it should. There’s just a steady rattle to the passenger side now. If I’m home before dark I’ll see what I can find. Any advice how to drop the blower motor? I’ve never had to work on an HVAC system before so this is all new to me.

Search it. Someone has done a write up with pictures that I followed to do mine. Very easy but rough laying on your back to get to under the glove box. I found a rat nest in mine. Noise free now.

I believe the 3 screws you need to remove are torx heads, but the right sized flathead might work too. Just one wire connector to disconnect, it's a 5 minute job.
