99 Limited lift question/help

Ok so I recently purchased a 1999 limited that I was told had a 3 inch lift. Either way I figured it was a spacer kit. No big deal. I'll swap some coils in later. So here's my issue. He had receipts showing that the coils were replaced in March with Moog ST8595L then had a toytec 3" spacer on those. Also added 285's on the stock 16" rim's. The rear measures about 23 inches from the hub to the fender flare. Here's the kicker though, the front still looks stock even with the spacers. It measures 20" from hub to fender. I'm at a loss at why the front isn't lift more. Any help would be appreciated

I'm working on a similar tangent (though from a 100% stock base), also on a '99 Limited. Just as a point of reference, I'm 20.5" all the way around for hub-center to bottom of fender flare with 193k miles. So you ARE at "stock" height up front.

The rest of this is just my limited knowledge based on doing my own research, nothing practical though (meaning, I haven't used the parts or made actual changes). I don't see where those MOOG units are anything other than stock length ~ actually I'm not finding any info anywhere about their length. And it's not like adding spacers to a fixed-length coil-over changes length (just spring pre-load). One Amazon review indicates that 20" is what to expect with the MOOG coil-over.

Add 3" spacers on top of the rear spring, though, and so long as the shock body isn't limiting the travel you would gain 3".

Thanks for the response. Yeah I haven't been able to find a lot on those moogs either. Im actually thinking I'll just order the Tundra 5100's to resolve the issue. The back sits where I'd want it.i just have to get the front up 2 to 3 inches. Honestly right now it looks weird. I have a lifted rear and the front looks stock

Pics of the front setup would help. Should be easy to see if there are spacers installed correctly.

Oh and to answer your question it looks like the cheap Moog springs absorbed all the space the spacer added judging by how they are compressed

Ok, so that explains a lot. So now, for a new setup. I have access to a newer set of stock coils. Should I go ahead with the 5100s and those? Of course I'd swap them later but for now would this work?

Lol, that's a TON of spring pre-load on those front coil-overs.

Can't help with what to buy, that's the endless loop I'm stuck in myself. There's this starter thread: 3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum but it leaves me wanting more info. I think it comes down to what compromise do you want to make.... stock OEM is comfortable on-road, pretty capable but looks "dainty". Lifts cure the look, but all seem to be troubled with quality (either poor across the board, or good off-road but stiff/unfriendly on-road) with the few exceptions suffering from price bloat.

Decide what you want... looks at the cheapest price? Rough Country is probably the ticket. High speed off-road performance (trophy truck) at any cost, then King/Fox/Icon is probably the right ticket. I'm stuck somewhere in the middle, looking for the best on-road performance/comfort for under $1000 new.

yikes, those springs are so compressed, cant imagine what they feel like when you hit a bump, even a speed bump
well I guess I can imagine, no springs no give

If that's the kind of work the PO did, I wonder what else you will come across.

4runners are like sailboats, which I have also done. The previous owner is just as important as the thing you are buying, maybe more so.

That is the most obscene resting spring I've ever seen. Clearly they grabbed whatever spring laying around that had the right diameter and shoved it in there.

Well, unfortunately that is what the Moog coilover is judging by the picture of the coilover.

That is a lot of coils in that spring. But it is worse for the OP because the PO has added the Toytec preload spacer between the top hat and spring, thereby squishing the spring even more.

As well as the spacer above the top hat. Craziest thing ever.

So yes these are coming off tomorrow. What's crazy is it's not a terrible ride. However I've not really been offroad since I bought it so in the road it's not bad. The moogs will be going in the trash!
