'99 Toyota 4Runner. Runnin' down a dream.

Ok, so i'm back! I'll keep it short and simple, but the Subaru just wasn't doing it for me and I really started to miss my old 4Runner, as did my other counterpart. So one week after selling my Subaru to a gent from Vegas, I was back in the hunt. I knew the Toyota Tax would be prevalent, but that's ok! My search concluded roughly one week after the sale of my Subaru, and I now find myself as the proud owner of a 1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited. Let's take a trip, down memory lane.

Stats:
*3.4L V6 5VZFE Engine, 4-Speed Automatic, and 4x4.
*162,xxx miles.
*P265/70/16 BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/As and Tacoma wheels.
*99 Tall Coils.
*Factory locker in the rear (RR Diff Lock).

*Exterior in great condition, interior in great condition.

Plans in the coming months:
OEM Timing Belt, Water Pump, misc. belts and seals.
OEM Radiator (Koyo 1998a) and B&M 70268 Transmission Cooler.
LT265/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs (6 ply) or Falken Rocky Mountains ATS II (10 ply).

I'm stoked and really happy about the purchase.

My first additional touches came in the form of roughly $3. I like to make improvements wherever I can, and love it when it can be done cheaply. Working at the local Hardware store, I have easy access to lots of nuts, bolts, screws, etc. I've done this before in my XJ and thought this beaut rightfully deserved the same treatment.

I went with a Truss head to fill in the space and worked great. I replace 17 screws total.
(12) Driver Front/Passenger Front/Driver 2nd Row/Passenger 2nd Row: Stainless Steel #12 x 1 1/2" Truss Sheet Metal Screw. 188PTT#12x11/2".
(5) Back Hatch: Stainless Steel #12 x 1 Truss Sheet Metal Screw. 188PTT#12x1".

Looks good. I like the millennium silver. The different transfer case modes on the 99-00 Limited's paired with the rear locker must be nice. First "mod" should be a can of black trim paint on that fake wood. Every time I see the plastic wood on the Limited's it makes me go..:puke:

I agree 100%. What was Toyota thinking with the awful fake wood????

Thanks. Me too... my favorite car colors are black and silver and hey, whadda you know I now have owned both. Call me an old man, but I'm digging the wood. For some odd reason, ever since my eyes laid upon the old station wagon/jeeps with side wood grain, I've wanted a little flavor of that incorporated in my vehicle.

Thanks man! I was not necessarily looking for one with an E-Locker, but it sure as heck made it easier buying it. We out to meet up sometime since you're right around my neighborhood. I'll throw a wave if I see you cruisin' around.

BTW, is that your ad on CList with the mangled stock skid plates? Lol.

Slowly, but surely they do arise. And the fact that I got heckled everywhere I went with family and friends... The Lesbaru did me right though.

On another note, I order some LT265/75/16 LR C Goodyear Duratracs.

I've been lurking here for a while absorbing the knowledge. I live just south of you in The 'Burg and looking for a 3rd Gen. The search has been slow and not too fruitful for me yet. Any tips on where I should look?

Howdy Bryan. I kept a dedicated window with Craigslist search in Seattle, PDX, Salem, Bend, Oregon Coast, etc., etc. and would just refresh every 5 minutes or so when I was on the computer. If you see something you like, just be ready to buy because these go quick! When you see it, you'll know. At least I did :).
 
Inner fender screws replaced to eliminate possible rubbing issues.

Specs are: Stainless Steel, Flat Sheet Metal Screw, #12 x 3/4". I used 4 total for the front.

Thanks sn0w, appreciate the kind words. All my mods are without doubt influenced from many others on this site... taking a little bit of everyone's 4Runner, and putting it into mine.
 
Ok, tires and wheels got mounted today. I initially was on the hunt for some 80-Series LC Wheels, but to my avail nothing was available for the price I was willing to pay. I deferred to the 3-Spoke alloy wheels that I found for a good price off CList. Was it my first choice? No. But staring at a nice set of tires on your porch will make you find something suitable :). The wheels are growing on me more and more. The wheels were oxidizing, and I had some left over paint so at 10PM last night, I said the heck with it and threw on a few coats of paint. Running boards were also removed.
