A/C issues

Hey guys, glad to be a part of this forum! After buying my 1st gen 4runner, the guy told me all the AC system needed was a recharge...rrriiighhht. I charged the system and it seemed to be working, it was blowing COLD air, but the load it put on the engine was shocking. It killed it once, but usually forced it to idle at like 250. Finally like a day later, it ruptured the hard line running from the compressor to the evap? Anyways, had a new hose made and havent touched it since. I am guessing there is a clogged expansion valve maybe? however, I cant find any tech stuff on this or any troubleshooting on this online or in my haynes/chilton manaul. I have a new expansion valve i bought about 9 months ago, but cant locate the original one on the truck anywhere...and the haynes doesnt say anything about it. If anyone knows much AC on these things I would really appreciate the help b/c it is getting hot in Florida lol Thanks guys...

You may want to check vacuum lines... The AC compressor has a vacuum line that increases idle when the system is running.

Also, a system with no coolant will corrode on the inside, there could be lots of issues if's been dry a long time.
