A/C not cooling magnetic clutch issues? 2004 SR5

So I don't drive my 4Runner since I bought my Jeep, it's primarily my wife's vehicle and she told me the A/C was not cooling. I immediately assumed it was low on refrigerant, well I happen to have a quick fill bottle of 134a and hooked it up to the system. The problem is as soon as I started to add refrigerant the compressor kicked on hard and made the engine surge and then shut off, I took that as a bad sign and stopped filling and even bled a tiny bit of refrigerant out (into a proper refrigerant evaluator of course....).

Now I notice the A/C light blinks on the HVAC panel and the compressor is unresponsive, only the fan speed changes. Quick google search brings me of course here to T4R where I find a TSB about the magnetic clutch relay being bad. I pull out the relay and it visually seems fine, no way of testing it I swapped in a new relay and the problem still persist.

The old relay is back in and my A/C is still not cooling, it's starting to get hot here in Alabama, hoping someone can shed some light in this situation.

Do you have refrigerant gauges? I would start with getting a proper measure of the system (pressure should be roughly equal to outside temp when checked sitting and not turned on both high and low.) There might be a code stored for the HVAC system, but it will be a factory code rather than a OBDII more than likely. I would bust out the DVOM and start checking the circuit and if you feel confident enough to jump the relay and have the A/C kick on manually a couple short times to verify the clutch is operative & that the compressor cycles freely.

Yes I feel confident enough to do that, I have refrigerant gauges at work but not at my house. Also the PDF's aren't showing up but I am on tapatalk. I will try and load them in my browser and give them a look over.

was thiws issue later esolved?..my ac is weak........blows out not so cold air..and only works best on lowest fan setting...at high fan settings...the air isnt cold
