A/C question

I recently had to work on my stereo and had to remove the panels around it to get it out.
It's just now gettin hot here and I noticed that my A/C is on all the time, not just when the button is pushed in. Is this right?
My wife's caddy has A/C on all the time and I wondered if my 4RUNNER is that way too. Or did I tweak something?

Thanks.

In response to the second post. A little while back I had 2/3 of my dash apart to run a new antenna cable. I think if you want to just take apart the center where your radio is you have to basically start at your parking brake. Unfortunately i don't remember the exact details, but it's a process. Just for your info this is coming from an owner of the same year Runner as yours. Just start at you P-brake and work your way up.

As far as the first post about the A/C; Is the light on all the time? Or is your compressor running all the time? If your compressor is turning all the time your A/C system may not have any freeon in it. In that case the question is whether or not you are getting cold air.

Brutus, did you notice if your a/c is on all the time only on windshield defrost? Because mine is too.
That's why I put mine on the feets and windshield defrost.

I just put freon in about a month ago. It's cold as hell. I'm gonna go mess with it a bit more today. And no, the light is not always on.

Thanks.

As was stated, if you are in defrost mode the a/c compressor will always run, it is meant to help remove moisture from the cabin as a/c is very effective at that. When in defrost mode the a/c light will not be lit as you never pressed it, but the compressor still runs. Try switching from defrost to all body or feet and see if the compressor turns off.

For those with 99+ there is a hidden feature that will run defrost w/o the a/c compressor. Move your indicator to defrost then pull the knob off and turn it one more click, this is a setting we are denied by a little piece of plastic on the knob that stops it from accessing this defrost w/o a/c setting, apparently overseas they are given this feature. We can also have it simply by trimming the little plastic stop, or removing the knob each time. I use it in the winter when I need to keep snow and ice off the window but don't want the extra drag of the a/c running.

OK, I figgered it out:D
It is only on when in defrost. It's not been hot enough here till recently to notice the difference. Plus adding the freon made it more noticable.

Thank you folks.
