A/C Repair Diagram/Manuals anyone ?

Anyone have a manual or something on the 4th Gen A/C System ? My A/C only blows cold air from the passenger vents. The driver side vents blow hot air at me and I'm driving in sweat !!

I have traced the cold / hot air back to part # 1 in the picture below. But I'm not sure if there are any mechanical parts inside that thing. Also, how does the cold air get to this "splitter" ?

I don't think it needs coolant since the passenger side gets cold air. But I have also noticed that it feels like hot air is being mixed into the passenger vents when I close my driver vents.

I dont wanna bring it to the dealer and find out it was something simple to fix and cost a crap load of $.

Sorry Man,

A/C systems is one of those things where you need special equipment and tools to correctly diagnose and there is not much other way around it. Sorry you had to go to the stealership... Let us know what they found out though...

So I went to the dealer this morning and paid 100 bux for 1 hour of diagnostics and they couldnt find shit ! They asked if I wanted to continue and keep paying per hour and I got pissed and left. Damn the Dealer for raping me :whipping2

I downloaded the service manual from this site and it's pretty informative with respect to the A/C system.

It looks like by pushing a few buttons simultaneously, you can run a diagnostic check mode procedure and actuator check. I am by no means a Toyota ASE technician but I'd assume they'd follow each step as outlined in the service manual when diagnosing problems.

Can you post that? I honestly don't remember ever seeing that; but then again I don't eat, breathe, sleep the FSM.

It'd be neat to have a better way to test the actuators (I'll see if I can download a section of the .pdf at work and post for the guys on here. )

I downloaded the entire 266mb zip file for the 2006 T4R and just saved it to my desktop. Definitely a wealth of information. There is a specific file name of "Air Conditioning" and subfolder "Air Conditioning System". This is where I found info on the diagnostic check procedure. .pdf file name is "043004" and "043006"

2009 v6 4x4 auto SR5

My wife recently got a nice surprise on the first 80+ degree day while on a 4 hour trip with 2 kids under 4, the AC was out, blowing hot air.

I tried to add some freon, but it would not take any. I stopped by a shop and they were kind enough to do some diagnostics. Pressure was fine and we could make the clutch/condenser work by jumping the relay, but the relay is in good working condition which I confirmed by switching it out for the same one from my tundra. I am told there could be some kind of problem with the signal from inside the cab to the relay, something about a ground? I am not the most fluent with wiring, I did take some panels off and inspected the wiring from the heater/ac controls out through the firewall and nothing appears out of place? They were fairly busy and booked so I made an appointment for a week from now. Good shop, I trust them, but I am hopeful I can figure out the problem and fix it before having to cough up their hourly rate.

any help or suggestions are appreciated, I am new to AC issues.

Maybe the cabin air temperature sensor has gone bad, if you have a Limited there's two of them one for each side because of the dual climate control but I would think it's improbable that both are having issue and you should get coild air out of one or the other side, if not then there only one and I beleive it on the backside of the lower panel just below the ignition switch, it could also just be dirty and cause issues of not being able to detect the correct cabin temp.

It's also possible your "blend" door actuator (there's two of them if you have the Limited one on each side) is bad and not moving to the correct position and stuck in heat/heater core position, if this is the issue you most likely would hear a clicking noise from the bad actuator near the glovebox area and behind the steering wheel if it's a Limited, while raising and lowering the temperature on the AC control panel which would make the blend door/s move from hot to cold accordingly, but again if this is the issue and it'a a Limited it should only affect one side and usually not both since it's unlikely that both blend door actuators have gone bad at the same time.

Make sure to check all fuses that may affect the temp sensor/s and or blend door/s
