A call for help - help me get back where I belong

Well, I admit, I ostracised myself by selling the 4runner. Now that the 'you did the right thing' front had failed I truly saw what I did. Not to get too personal, but with everything I had going on with work and all it made more since to get in something more reliable. All I can say is that this is killing me. Every day that passes I miss my 4Runner and everything about it. Even worse, my incessant need to tinker with things has been suppressed which is making me a bit loopy. I lost some of myself when I sold that truck. And I don't think I'm obsessed with it, but the joy I had out of building that and sharing it with you guys every step of the way has really amounted to one of the best things of my life thus far.

I can't explain really how upset I am about just having this friggin Camry now. Great car, don't get me wrong, but man I found out the absolute worst way possible that I am and always will be a 4Runner guy. I can't sell this thing now, I'm looking at upwards of $6,000 in negative equity if I sold today. However with my job, I really need an SUV for liquor and point of sale transportation, and my higher ups have made it known that my choice of vehicle is making things difficult. But with interest rates and other factors, the Camry was the best financial decision for my situation.

So babbling aside, I'm coming to you guys. The only real family I know when it comes to my passion for this. I am going to be looking for another 4runner, whether it be wrecked, engine blown or just tons of mileage. I have some funds to work with but I am going to have to play this very carefully. I can't be picky in this situation really but I am hoping to get into another black one, preferably with sunroof and tan interior, but am open to everything. I don't really know exactly what I'm asking for, but I don't know...if you see some good deals out there, or know someone selling that may sympathize with this, please let me know. Sorry for this long essay haha but sadly this is the only place that understands what it is I want and why.

Sry to hear about ur predicament that ur in... i hope things work out for ya and ill keep and eye out for ya. Jw but wat is the max ur wanting to spend or play with for another 4runner. Are u also interested in only 3rd gens?
 
Keep your head up Brother. I shared your same experiences once I sold my built Tacoma for a commuter car. Finally sold the GTI and I am now in a 4Runner. My hope is that your story will mirror mine.
 
I can relate. I bought this truck to use as a winter vehicle, so I could keep my '99 Acura 1.6EL minty, as I was going to keep it forever...less than 4 months later, I'm returning my car to stock to sell it, so there's room in the garage for the Surf. These trucks do strange things to you.
 
Since you know how to fix/mod (from the looks of your old Runner) you can probably pick up a fix er' upper and turn it into a decent ride. Look for a cheap Runner that needs some work and slowly fix it up to your liking. You should be able to find another Runner - even if you have to travel a few miles to find it. Adding a 3rd Gen to your insurance policy shouldn't cost you that much, you can add it as a weekend/summer vehicle and probably get a good rate.
 
Im sure you can pick up a descent 3rd gen for $3500 if you look around. I think a 96 or 97 should be right around that price. You would never find one that cheap on this forum, but on autotrader/cragislist you should get a okay deal.
 
I was kind of sandbagging this one for myself, however if you can get it done I think this is perfect for what you want..

And its a 5 speed ;)

Sounds like someone needs to provide you with a capable company vehicle!

Sorry to hear about the situation though. I've always been a firm believer in owning multiple affordable used vehicles for various situations and backup in case something needs extended mechanical attention. Between the wife & I, we're down to 5.

But seriously, the whole reason you were going to sell it in the first place was that the 4runner isn't the hauler you need for your job, wasn't it? What are you going to do differently with this one to solve that problem?

I hope this is an awesome job, cause I'm with sportscarfan, they are asking alot of you if they are requiring you to haul like that in your personal vehicle. You better be getting special allowances for that.

Definitely interested to see what you do if you get another one.

I felt the same way when I sold my modded FJ for...wait for it...my Scion xD. Even though I like the Sion for commuting, I missed the fellowship of my FJ group and offroading and tinkering in the garage. That's what brought me to the 4R and I couldn't be happier. You will find another one, just be patient. You can get one for $3k-$4k I'm sure of it.

Can't wait til you get one and get to work on it that's for sure!
 
I got mine for $4300 bucks, but that had a little to do with me working at a car dealership. But I have faith in you getting one for pretty cheap too. Stick with it, keep looking, and she'll find you.
