its my billionth time there, but each trip is unique in its own way..Decided to stay right on the beach in a little shack. We rented the 4 houses in a circle, felt a lot like being at camp. The new laws they passed about beach driving are bullshi and unnecessary. After paying the 50.00 fee for a pass, I was harrassed by cops multiple times. Mostly for their poor design in a flimsy rearview mirror pass, other times "just because". I go there to get away, I dont need to look over my shoulder every couple mins for white trucks coming down the beach....Anyway enjoy a few photos, would have taken more but iphone broke and had to use an older gen.

Yea they charge for everything from oregon inlet south now and have restricted the beach driving to small areas :/ I like corolla beach its still wide open (for now) I was down there last weekend

Those pics look good; I am not usually a fan of painted black 5 spoke, but it looks good against the silver. Pups look like they enjoyed it.

What kind of rack do you have up top there? It is nice.

I am about 35 miles from ya; tons of people on the beach. Lots of Popo checkpoints.

My friend is a coastal engineer for NC; the amount of taxpayer money necessary to maintain the beaches now, especially from higher tides and storms exceeds $50 million. The cost for driving on the beaches now is $$$ that acts as a slush fund for present and future expenditures. There are still a few non paying ones.

Permit is required for Hatteras but not for Corolla.

This will show you what's up. The only beach ramp I see that is not marked is the Corolla beach ramp, which means the NPS is not controlling it at this time. I am personally going to continue to go to Corolla until they make it a permit only or you have to be a resident or renter to access the beach.

I believe I used a 2" hole saw and WD-40 in the bumper and then I used a 13" long piece of 1 1/2" PVC pipe with a coupling on top (so it wouldnt slip down) and notched the collar to keep the poles from spinning around ... as far as mounting I drilled 2 holes near the bottom of the pvc and Zip tied it (big zip ties) to that part of the frame that is right behind the bumper

I can get more specific and detailed about it in a PM if you would like ... They work great and I always get complements on them

Hatteras/Ocracoke non-transferrable permit is required and there are no guarantees that the ramp you want will be open (they closed the ramp near rodanthe this weekend basically for spite) $50/7day pass $120/Jan2012-Dec2012

Bummer. I like to go out around Rodanthe and fish for a couple of hours but I usually am only able to make it once a year. $50 is a little steep for that.

We were going to drive up to corolla but couldnt find the time, plus paying 50.00 for a week I had to get my moneys worth. A couple of my friends said that there are awesome side roads that have incline and little water crossings(in corolla)

Once you get where you want to go down there on a Holiday weekend, it's best to stay put. Traffic is always a bear and seems worse up north than down south.

great pics! i literally just spent an hour trying to find a beach I can drive on and plan a mini weekend vacation after seeing your pictures! looks like either myrtle beach or drive to FL for me. 6 hour drive. I saw that SC has restricted all driving on the beach..NC would be the nearest for me or FL.

Yeh nowhere around Myrtle that I'm aware of. Not sure where in FL - do they still allow it in Daytona? NC used to be free at designated locations like Corolla, Oregon Inlet, Hatteras Island and then by permit at other locations in the off season. Sounds like you have to pay for all but Corolla anymore. That's probably because it's in a different county that just hasn't adopted that policy (yet).

I grew up in NC when it was free to drive on all beaches. Then the beaches (state parks) in New Hanover Co. started charging and now see that movement has made it to the Outer Banks. That stinks.

OP - Great looking ride. I like your wheels.

T4R-Finally - You can still drive on the beach in some parts of NE Florida (Amelia Island and Hugenot Park). St. Johns County (near St. Aug) has some places to drive on the beach also. Very flat and 2wd accessible in 90% of the beach. Not sure about Daytona.
