A couple new guy questions

Hello, newbie checking in here...

I came across this forum time and time again during Google searches for info, so finally decided to register. There’s all kinds of good information here, and lots of motivating threads on builds.

A little about me: 51 years young, retired military, family guy with career and other hobbies, (interpret that to mean not as much time to spend tinkering with 4x4s as I would like) some basic mechanical/electrical skills and knowledge, but not as much as I’d like…

Mixed in with various cars, (yes, there was even a mini-van in there too!…) over the years I have owned the following 4x4s: (all have been pretty much stock)
1986 Nissan PU – My post-USMC/college rig when I moved back to WA state.
1990 Toyota PU – My post-USN flight school rig when I got orders back to WA state.
1995 Ford F-150 – We upsized to a family sized rig with extra-cab big enough for baby seat.
1999 Ford F-250 – I needed more power to pull boat and horse trailer.
2005 Tacoma – I didn’t need the size and power any more as boat and horse trailer were gone and I also had a…
2006 Sequoia – Which we still have. This is our family wagon, and the wife’s daily driver.
1996 4Runner – My daughter started driving about a year ago and didn’t like the stick shift in my Tacoma. I bought this as a spare rig intending mainly for the kids to share it. (I would have kept the Taco for myself except I also had a Subaru that I mistakenly thought would be enough for me)
1998 4Runner – I liked the one I bought for my kids so much I traded my 2005 turbo Outback for this one just a few weeks ago.

The latter two are obviously why I am here.

The 96 is an Auto tranny Limited with an elocker. The 98 I just got myself is a manual SR5 with no elocker. I would like to swap rear ends, but from what little research I have done I am pretty sure the gear ratios are different and would also need to be swapped. I think I would be over my head on this, and my garage is more like a storage shed so I don’t have the space to work out of the weather. Plus I really don’t want to take 2/3 of my transportation out of commission for the time required for me to figure it out and fumble through something like this on my own.

So first question, anybody have a rough ballpark on what might be a fair price to have this swap done? I can call around for quotes, but wanted some opinions first.

Next question, what is the biggest reasonable sized tire I could fit given that I don’t want to lift it, don’t want to cut fenders, don’t want to move spare tire from current location, and don’t want any drastic changes to speedometer?

That’s all for now! Thanks…
