Exactly. Most SUVs today are indeed "vehicles" but don't have much in the way of "sport" or "utility". Just a car with an over-abundance of head room. I disagree about the "sell to women" thing though - it's to sell it to their husbands. "It's not a Mini Van, it's a Sport Utility Vehicle!". I've always thought of a mini van as a much more "honest" vehicle and more truck-like than most SUVs; a mini van makes a great small utility truck for deliveries, paint crews, etc. But most guys I know say they wouldn't be "caught dead" driving a mini van but have no issues with some silly overgrown car - they need to "man up" IMO!

I can't remember now if my 1st gen said "truck" on the registration or not, but my 2nd gen says "station wagon" on the registration. LOL.

In my opinion if you're buying parts online and bolting them on, it's not really a build. That doesn't make it uncool, but I wouldn't call it a build.

Well, I was at the Toyota dealer yesterday. This old hippy could have purchased a Pious smugmobile and made the government, along with some of my Berkeley alumni, happy. Instead, I bought another 4Runner. Go Bears!

In my opinion if you're buying parts online and bolting them on, it's not really a build. That doesn't make it uncool, but I wouldn't call it a build.

interesting because a bumper sliders suspension are all purchased online and definitely built it up so intrigued by what you consider those ? Not much you can do with these modern motors from and aftermarket stand point.

I knew exactly what I was getting and thats 100% the reason I got it. The fantastic reliability track record also played a big part in my decision making process. interesting because a bumper sliders suspension are all purchased online and definitely built it up so intrigued by what you consider those ? Not much you can do with these modern motors from and aftermarket stand point.

I just find it funny we call them build threads when most of them haven't built anything. Just buying pre-fabbed products and bolting them on. I view it like putting accessories on. If I changed my shift knob to an Ellis knob, could I call it a build then? I'm not trying to knock anyone at all, the content in the threads are great, I just find the term funny. Maybe it's just me.

I don't think folks are putting shift knobs and AutoZone stick on vents calling it a build, but yes not everyone is fabricating and welding their own parts either. I don't know anyone that has truly custom built their vehicle in it's entirety as everyone ha used parts supplied by others at some point ? I think true custom car builders left the actual automobile scene a while ago.

Want a lift? Only Kings or Icons are a real lift. 5100s? The 4Runner is more capable stock than anyone needs; you don't need a lift anyway. Rear locker useful? Nobody needs that nanny nonsense, an SR5 will do just as good with ATRAC. Want to do some trail riding? Don't even go on a dirt road without armor, you'll destroy the truck/rig/build/overland vehicle. Full size matching LT spare? Never heard of it.

I actually agree with you guys on a lot of these sentiments - the 5th gen forum IS full of people trading in a "built" (i.e $$$$$$ accessories) truck at 40k miles so they can get a new non-"built" one whereas I have been used to everyone doing their own welding on their 250k mile truck in the past......but sheesh, bitter much?

A ''Truck'' was the carriage and wheel assembly on a Train car or Locomotive....the term got applied to vehicles and became a generic for transporting a load. The first 4Runner was the complete running gear of a Pick-up Truck, with a modified body on top. 4Runner is a truck technically and it's inherent ''burlyness'' makes us think of it as a Truck!
