A few questions...

Hey guys!
I have a 99 4Runner (SR5 AWD) that I am trying to sell. I am mainly selling it because of the gas mileage, which is pretty awful. It doesn't help that I have a half hour commute to work and and hour on the way home from work because of traffic. But anyway, the first question is, what can I do to squeeze a few more miles out of this truck without sinking a ton of money into it?

Also, A few months back, I had the car checked out, and they said nothing was wrong with it, but the check engine light would come on and off randomly.. Is there something I can do to fix it/get it to function normally?

When i got the car, the dashboard clock stopped working.. Is there possibly a quick fix for this?

And lastly, Im stupid, and went through the car wash with my power antenna up, and it got bent. :cry2: I would like to just rid myself and the next owner of this problem by getting an antenna that won't break, such as a short one, or a bendable one. I was just curious as to what kind would not only work but work well with the 4Runner.

I'm going to answer the better mileage part for you. The following are things I would do to enhance to mpg.
change:
spark plugs
Fuel filter
air filter

Perform sea foam treatment
Go down to a smaller size tire and or check for efficient tire pressure
Remove all the useless stuff you carry around that you don't need
Remove the spare tire if you feel comfortable doing it
Remove the running boards

Swap the factory muffler out for a light one
Deckplate mod will net you some hp and more air for the engine
Stay out of the gas and learn to carry your momentum the best you can when possible
Maintain to optimal cruising speed IIRC is 60 MPH

That's all I can think of right now...

Thanks for the help, i might run out to the store tomorrow to see what kind of prices I'm looking at.
Any recommendations for places to buy things?

Specifics always help, especially in regards to mileage, but it seems TFJ-4Runner nailed it on the head already. In fact, that reminds me I need to do a few things.

CJ80cruiser already mentioned the Tacoma Whip mod, which is exactly what you need to do to replace your antenna. I just replaced mine and I get excellent reception now. Plus it's easy to remove the antenna before you go through a car wash.

You'll have to get it from a stealership. Here are the part numbers for the antenna mod:
Antenna assembly # 86300-35090
Tacoma Whip Antenna (Black) # 86309-AA040

Cost should be around 80-100$

It's fairly straightforward and takes about 60-90 minutes. Routing the wire is that hardest part. Good luck!
