A New version of "Entune" is available!

Yesterday, we had some rain, so I looked at the weather map and it was accurate.

Any idea why certain portions of the weather information wouldn't be working?

Well, apart from Entune being pretty much a gimmicky hunk of junk upsell (frustratingly I have had it for 4 years and updates seem to fix 1 thing break two others)

This is just an educated guess, typically an app pulls your location data, it could be on 1 of 3 ways. If WiFi it could be generalizing you location through IP which is an easy guess why your weather would be incorrect, as often the WiFi provider could be getting it assigned from God knows where, 4blocks away or 300 miles (ever wonder why Google Maps starts you off in a different state/location?). The other would be cellular triangulation, much more accurate, who knows why it wouldn't use that primarily. The third would be GPS coords, I doubt that app is smart enough to use, again you think it would be the primary.

Disable Entune

Just curious if there is a way to disable Entune and go back to the radio before I registered Entune? I tried using Waze app yesterday and it would not play through Bluetooth for voice commands. Phone was also muted until I selected the Iphone for voice commands. It said the phone was connected to the 4runner. By the way I have a Iphone 6. Thanks, Keith

In Waze set the app to either play audio through the phone's speakers OR set it it to play as a phone call.

Thanks for the reply. I just set up what you described and still no-go. My 2017 has Entune Premium Audio. On this, according to the dealer, I should see a PLAYLIST tab at the top of the screen, along with ALBUM ARTIST GENRE, etc. I've tried 3 different USB devices and none of them do that. I'll be going back to the dealer Thursday.

What method do you use to select the playlist on your vehicle? What version of Entune do you have?

Looking this over one more time, my music folders are in the root of the drive. I'll try making a MP3 folder and moving it all to that and see if there's a change.

TRUST ME... you dont have to do any of these USB installs or stuff like that... look thru the thread and you will see guys with 2016 4Runners (like myself wasted HOURS trying to update something that was done AUTOMATICALLY thru the Entune App.

Unfortunately, no. Just had my 1st service last week, and asked the dealer to check for updated to Entune. There was one, which they applied, but it didn't help.

Agreed mine prompts me right on the stereo every so often after my phone is connected through the entune app. I just wish there was a way to allow the app to connect all the time on my iPhone rather then having to click yes every time.

On the Toyota Entune web site, there is a page that lists the carriers/phones that are compatible with Entune (https://www.toyota.com/entune/#!compatibility/4runner/2017). When I got the 4Runner back in April, I tried pairing my phone and it failed. That's how I discovered the web page. Having gone through this discussion, I just went out and tried it again, and now they pair. I guess the update the dealer applied, fixed that part. I've got my phone hooked up to it right now and it's downloading yet another update.

Given this revelation, all I have to do is figure out how to get playlists working...

Having just gone through the update through the phone, it appears THAT was an update to the Entune Apps. What the dealer applied was a firmware update (01018D) for the head unit.

Playlists work for me. I generate them from JRiver Media Center and they look llike this:

filename: playlist.m3u

contents:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:192,animals - we've gotta get out of this pl
_1960's\animals - we've gotta get out of this place.mp3

In the above example, the folder is: _1960's
The track filename is: animals - we've gotta get out of this place.mp3

I then use a text editor to change the contents to this format:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:192,animals - we've gotta get out of this pl
.\_1960's\animals - we've gotta get out of this place.mp3



That's it. Place them in the top level folder. For example, make a top level fodler called MP3 and then "_1960's" is below that. Place the playlist in MP3 folder.

I'm going from memory on the last part there, where to place the playlists. I'll check next time I'm in the truck.

Art, having looked over this a few more times, I'm getting the impression this is a red herring. First off, the manual for the 2013 4Runner Entune (which on Toyota's web site is for the 2012) says that .m3u files are not compatible with Entune. My manual says the same, and I can verify that they don't work on my 2017 4Runner. Second, you don't go into specifics, but, if you place all your MP3s in the _1960's folder, Entune is simply going to play all the files in the _1960's folder, and ignore the playlist. If you're still around, please test this by removing ALL the songs in the playlist except one (just create a new playist with one song), and see how Entune reacts. I bet it still plays all the songs in the folder.

I have done what you suggested and it works correctly. One song in playlist, same folder with all songs, one song only plays.
