"Suspension system" may. to be the correct term. Most kits keep the majority of your OEM suspension system and only replaces part of your ride control system.

Some economy lifts require you to remove nothing, they just add a spacer to your stock setup. Other kits replace both front and rear shocks and springs.

The majority of your suspension system does not get removed for most kits (full long travel kits require removal). You rear track bar, sway bar, upper & lower control arm, as well as your front upper and lower A-Arm, and sway bar stay OEM.

Some advise: if you are going to do a lift and you still want a nice ride, you need to consider replacing the front with some good coil overs, like Icon, King or equivalent.

Before you get assaulted with "use the search", spacer lift if you want to keep the stock suspension. But I have to admit, replacing the front with this & set at only 1" of lift (1/2" threads showing) was the best thing I've done so far & REALLY makes me want to replace the rear now. & trust me, it's level, my driveway plays tricks on the eye.

i think the answer to the question you're really asking, and in the simplest terms, is yes—you will need to remove the Toyota XREAS system on the Limited if you want to install new (better) shocks and coils.

you can install spacers without removing the XREAS system, but it in order to gain that nominal increase in height it will sacrifice some ride quality due to pre-load on the coils.

if you do intend to swap out your shocks and coils, and you don't want to irreparably trash the XREAS system during removal, please be sure to search the forum for write-ups detailing the locations of the XREAS check-valves so you can remove it cleanly without inadvertently draining the system (rendering it completely trashed).
