A pillar handle?

Watt the fuuu... Going from my '96 to a '16 I expected soo much more, one thing in particular is the A pillar handle, I'm going to be lifted soon and I used it all the time, has anybody installed one on the drivers side?
... And don't even get me going with the non locking gas door, fuel economy, clutch fan, and dust on my back window...

I use the big round thing on the driver's side and the handle on the passenger side. Seems to work OK.

Probably TWENTY YEARS AGO, there was no A pillar airbag.

you cant lift a 5th gen high enough for this to really be an issue unless you are a midget

I do miss the A pillar grab handle. Was wondering if pillar trim from a Prado will fit. Covers found in GX's look a little different, don't come in light gray color and have a different finish. So I simply replaced the oh-shit handles with the 4th gen ones - at least they do not retract and I can actually use them to get in and out.

I have the high end model shoes with the clear heels and fake swimming fish in them. I'm 6'3" so I actually have to step down to get in my T4R when I am going out for a night on the town.

I always thought the drivers side a pillar handle in my 4th gen was good in concept but useless in practice. I never used it, but if I were to have used it, it would have had to be located higher up the a pillar to have been useful. Needless to say, I don't miss it in the 5th gen. But bump-start, auto-latch tailgate, secret compartment in glovebox, Torsen differential, in-dash 4wd selector: sigh.

The A pillar frame on the drivers side is not constructed like the one on the pass side. Nothing to bolt the handles to.

This is the answer my salesman gave me when I brought up the lack of a driver's side front grab handle. I too was disappointed as my 2005 SR5 had the handle and I liked having it handy sometimes.

That's unfortunate. Did you take it apart to check? I don't understand why Toyota didn't make them symmetric just like in GX or Prado.
Also why no handles for 3rd row passengers - GX has them

I do miss the grab handle on my 2005 LC or the 07 FJ....makes it very easy to enter the vehicle as you can lift yourself onto the seat and not hit the seat corner ....
it cant be because of airbags as the GX has them and they have airbags in the pillars!

It has nothing to do with the airbags, it is totally by design.
My 2013 FJ TT had handles on both "A" Pillars and to the sides and a full array of airbags as well!
I wish when they designed the T4R's they would have done the handles like the FJ's...... YMMV

To be fair, nobody's going to pass on a 4Runner because of an A-Pillar handle. It's certainly not on my top list of things I notice when being wowed by my new car. You especially wouldn't notice if it's an expectation until much later.
