A problem that shouldn't exist *update fixed w/ pics

Amongst all the problems I've had from the time I've owned the truck this is one that is just ridiculous and should not happen. The previous owner/engine builder had apparently threaded in the oil pressure sending unit into the block wrong. After noticing a small leak from this I decided that I might as well switch to a real pressure gauge. When i un-threaded the unit a piece of the block that extrudes and meets the switch broke off (WTF). Long story short I ended up having to block off that hole that has suddenly starting leaking like the Exxon Valdez.

This is one of those really stupid problems that at the moment I don't have a solution to. Really hoping for some good ideas.

Welding cast iron is pretty tough. If that is your only solution then bring it to someone is very experienced and has a bit of grey hair. You should post a pic.

I would agree if he was looking for a structureal weld, but for just plugging up a little hole even a bubble gum weld should hold it. Hell JB Weld or Coldsteel would probly hold it.

Hah! I have seen you in some of your pictures, we could almost be twin brothers (I would be the scrawny one).

JB Weld might not be a bad idea, still hard to tell without seeing it though.

If i were me i would try and tap and die set and try retapping the hole so you could at least block it off by threading something in the hole like a bolt thats what i would do

yup that would work just fine if you could tap it and then put a bolt in with a nylon washer to seal it.

the problem is the cast iron is hard you may have to but a single tap for cast iron i think a carbide bit would do it but they are like 20$ for a single bit.
to not leak oil this is the easy way to fix it without having a glob of epoxy on it.

I haven't been off work before dark since the problem, but I will get a good pic to show what is up. Bad_Vision, this was already done in the first place. It held for about a year, although 10 months of this it set dormant. It is the part that extrudes from the block that cracked. It strangely just started leaking after my last oil change, checked the bolt in there and it is still snug.

I was hoping not that something other than the JB Weld would come up. I might try a rubber conical washer with a regular washer behind it for pressure. I'll have to get the pic the idea. I'll try one at night and see how it comes out.

JB Weld is all I can come up with too. If you do a GREAT job in the prep before using the stuff it should hold forever....prep is everything.

1. my bad i guess i misunderstood what you were saying
2. this begs the question did you have it done by a oil change or do it yourself.

If a oil change did it and i never leaked before they are responsible for the repair just call them and tell them its now leaking oil. they will want to check it out most of the time they will foot the bill to have it fixed just to save face so that you wont rag on them for breaking your truck.

if you did it yourself then your going to have to come up with something if you can get us some pictures we can get a better grasp on how broke it is and maybe come up with a better solution then JB Weld.

It is kind of hard to explain, I took a pic however it looks a little crappy. I will shoot one in the daylight and post it up. Also I changed the oil myself and to the best of my knowledge I didn't even bump that damn bolt. Any how good pics to come.

Fixed, hopefully.

This is what I was dealing with, bolt removed.

Not very deep and a PITA to deal with.

Ended up re-tapping the whole (again), measuring the depth and getting a bolt just long enough, putting on a generous amount of thread sealing tape and cranking it down real snug. I have a pic without the high temp RTV on there to show how it ended up. Quick trip around the block with high rpms show no leaks for now.
