A satoshi/hella prototype

I have been tossing around a few ideas on how to mount my Hellas and aha2988 and I have been going back and forth. Today I installed them directly to the bottom lip of the satoshi. No wiring, and still need to finalize the mount per a few suggestions that aha had so its just a mock up for now.

What do you guys think?

not a bad idea! but just a thought, maybe a slightly smaller dia. light that fits within the grille ( from side view, not going above it) might look a bit better.

Yeah, I would try to find smaller diameter lights that would fit within the grill frame. One problem you are going to have is vibration. Ideally you would mount them behind the grill but leave two round openings in the grill

I think flush in the grill would look good

Hear you all on behind the grill. That's what I had on my Taco and that was the goal. However, there aren't any behind the grill light bars available for the T4R and I am not about to spend the next two months fabbing one up myself. Besides, doing a horn and cooler line relocation adds to the project.

Good suggestion on smaller diameter lights. If this setup holds up after a few more hundred test miles, I may get the Hella 500FFs or PIAAs that are smaller than the current 700FFs. I remember there was a write-up on how to convert the Hellas to HIDs on tacomaworld, so I may finish with that.

I like the look but do agree that a slightly smaller diameter might look more proportional but those are not a deal-breaker.

That said, I AM concerned about the mount. The bottom of the grill piece would need a piece of steel or similar to make a structurally sound mount. There isn't enough strength in that bottom rail to provide adequate mounting support for much of anything, never mind those lights.

Lol thanks for the offer. There was no chopping involved just two precise holes drilled - pretty easy to reverse if necessary.

I'm driving it for a few hundred miles to see how it holds up. I am convinced I like the look, just need to evaluate durability.

I have two piaas mounted behind mine. Had the bracket built locally. I had to move one horn. Take a look at my build thread and if you like the look I can send you better pics of the mount and measurements if necessary. But id go behind as well.

Isn't the whole point of making the satoshi grill to put lights behind the grill?
