A Strange question about powering my Sirius Radio

I installed my Sirius radio recently and love it. I got the Sporster Replay with the 45 minute memory. I spliced into the power of one of the cig lighters plugs. My only problem is when I turn the truck off, the radio goes off. I know I could fix this by running power to an always on connection, but don't really want to leave it on always.

But is it possible to wire a switch somewhere that I can throw to make the power going to the Sirius radio always on, only when the switch is on. So when I stop for a few minutes and want to pause what I am listening to, I flip a hidden switch, which switches to or adds an always on 12V. Then when I get back in, start the 4runner, I can then flip the switch off so when I stop I don't have to remember to turn the radio off?

Complicated I know, I am just wondering if it is possible. I drive the interstates alot and listen to Howard Stern. Stopping at a rest stop, I hate to leave the 4Runner running

That's a great question - since I have the Replay also, I could benefit from that type of install. I know the obvious answer is, "why can't you just connect it to 12v always on, and hit the POWER switch on the tuner when you are done? You have to flip 1 switch anyway, so why not make it easier on yourself? Plus, are you going to remember to flip that switch EVERY time you exit/enter the car?" That could work for you.... but....

I will be getting an alarm/remote starter installed soon, so your idea would help me out too: in that when I use the "valet" feature of the starter (flip a switch, it keeps the engine running, but I can take the keys out of the ignition to either go back into the house, arm the car while making a quick 7-11 stop, etc), I want the Replay to stay ON. As it is now, it won't stay on, because the radio and everything else turns off when the Valet feature is enabled.

I say you check your fusebox for a hot (always on) fuse then tap into that with the add-a-circuit. Do the same for the ACC in the fuse box, then connect a SPDT switch between the two lines. It's clean and it'll probably only about 10 minutes to install. Just make damn sure you insulate the wires at the switch, I recommend coating them with many layers of RTV after soldering. I wish I had a more detailed answer for you....I will look into this when the temps get above 5deg and I can take going in and out of the truck while installing something...

Why not power to constant 12V power at the fuse. That's what i did.
If you have Replay, then check your setting on the radio.
Auto Shutdown: You can program the SPORTSTER unit to
automatically shut off after a one hour period
without any user intervention. After 59 minutes of
inactivity, a beep tone sounds and a display prompt appears on the screen,

I did not know it had an autoshutdown. I will just re-wire it to be on all the time then, that will work out good for me. I won't have to worry leaving it on for the 2 or 3 days I sometimes don't drive.

I forgot about that auto shutdown feature.... I guess I'll just move that add-a-circuit to one of those empty locations.
