A/T cooler but still overheating

So, here are new reults : changed fan clutch with brand new original Aisin unit. Engine temps stays at 186-188 at heavy city traffic with a/c on. Trans temp howers around 175-180.
Gave it a pretty hard hit at 12-15 mile mountain road with steep windy roads. No load, but OD on and A/C on. Air temp was 86-96 outside (obd registered 120 degrees intake air temp though). So, the highest water temp seen was 194 and highest trans temp was 234.

Any thoughts ?

Water temp is bang-on. Trans is still safe, though could be better.

What trans cooler did you use? Is it mounted in a way that air is forced through it by the mechanical fan?

Yes, water temp is perfect. New clutch does the great job.
I used Mitsubishi oem trans cooler, from Montero, the biggest one. Mounted it in front of a/c rad, drivers side.
But it doesn't sit flush on a/c rad. There is a gap of about an inch between them.

Try putting some thick foam weather stripping or rubber around the edges to seal that 1" gap and see if that helps those temps.
I've always been told anything below 240 isnt bad. Anything above 240 is not good and above 270 is cooked.

What year is your 4Runner? If all wheels spin freely by hand when you raise the vehicle I would look into the transmission and transfer case at this point.
