this thing showed up at my work today.



Notice how the sliders are even with the t-case and fuel tank...



And finally


Yes that is a Vortec V6, 4 barrel edelbrock, msd ignition, becool radiator, and headers, etc.

Wow, those sliders are probably the most disfunctional sliders that I've ever seen on any type of 4 wheel drive vehicle :(

Guess there aren't any big rocks that he wheels in....

that dysfunction saved the tcase and fuel tank. infact, what is the function of putting them above the tcase and an inch or 2 from the body?
whoever built this thing knew what they wanted and did everything for a reason.

As I said in my previous post,
y'all don't wheel in any big rocks, else you would know ;)

That Toyota would have a hell've time and would spend more time trying to get unhung than anything else.

I have to support fred on this one you see a slider is designed more for protecting the rocker panel and providing a reduced amount of friction to aid in the forward movement. steel tubing does not cave in as easily as sheet metal. those step bars are only useful enough to aid in getting into the vehicle. in fact i bet they are only bolted to the body and have no contact to the frame. if you are looking for gas tank and transmission armor you would use a skid plate. those things have no other usefull purpose other then running boards. they won't protect it from the following that is for sure, a heavy swing of a sledge hammer, side impact of an auto accident, or to be used as a lift point with a jack.

in fact looking at this picture you can tell these are all pro or something similar sliders. this person just added them to the end of 4 pieces of channeled steel and dropped them lower. a good hit will either bend them up and into body or push them under the truck.

so what would a good hit do to sliders mounted close to the body?
 
sliders mounted in line with the frame are going to have greater strength. think of it in this perspective when you take a piece of wood the easiest way to break it in half is by bending it. as for trying to split a piece of wood directly it is nearly impossible without a log splitter. same thing goes for the way those sliders are mounted. there is no structural support in that setup. i could take a couple of hits with a 10 lb sledge and ben that slider up under the truck.

now the way i have my sliders mounted am i going to damage the outer tube? of course but the over all structure will not fail. remember though sliders are designed for low velocity impact. can they sustain a high velocity. of course but even a 40mph impact from the side is going to destroy my vehicle as well but i have noticed a significant reduction in body and frame flex and increased articulation in suspension flex. my 4runner also has a SAS done on it and my springs are the 1st generation from all pro i have had my truck since 2001 and the work was completed in the same year.

dude, they're just sliders, and i bet you've never had to use yours. Ill also bet that i could take a 10 pound sledge and bend yours under, or up into the truck in a couple hits. just like the one i posted, i suppose that yours too are cantilevered off the frame with the moment being at the frame itself, which is also probably the weakest link in the entire slider setup, both yours and the one i posted.
