a340h with 2 solenoids in transfer case

I've been searching everywhere trying to find answers. Pulled my transmission from my '86 4runner and had a donor to swap in. Wiring harness was different on donor so I was going to swap them. Found the donor has a 5th solenoid? The 3 in the transmission match up with wire colors and the 4th in the transfer matches with wire color (red) but the donor has a smaller solenoid with a blue wire. Does anyone know what this solenoid is used for.
It came out of a '88 with a v6 but don't know if it was swapped previously. It has the transfer case oil cooler and harmonic balancer on the transfer gear box. Anyone ever see this 5th solenoid. I'll try to load a pic.

OK, smaller one in bottom pic is not a solenoid. It is either a fluid pressure sensor or a fluid temperature sensor. I am guessing pressure since there are 2 temp sensors accessible from the outside case.

I just swapped a transmission into my '87 Turbo. The donor vehicle was a 1993 V6 4Runner. I ran into the same thing. What I did was swap the valve body off of the 87 and put it into the 93 transfer case. I was not sure what the differences are.

Everything seems to be working just fine. I will say that the bolts are all different length, so keep an eye out on which hole they came out of.

There were a bunch of other issues, nothing too crazy. If you need some advice, let me know.

I am about to attempt the same (similar) thing, A340H out of a 1988 4runner 3VZE into my 1987 Turbo, mine will not move in drive but reverse works.

Why did you go with another automatic over a 5 speed? My donor transmission was local and cheap but eventually I would like to do a manual swap.

I actually like my automatic. I bought it as a daily and my other car is a 6 Speed G35. I am tired of banging gears (especially in traffic). Also, I hear automatics are great off road for when you need to ride the brakes and still give it gas.

Having an automatic was a primary factor when I was looking for my car.

I love it so far. Just trying to get some driveability issues fixed. I am debating selling it to get a Land Cruiser

Wow, you are that deep in should just do inchworm adapter for gear driven t case

I was given your contact info by a friend (crash813). If things don't work out, I'll be giving you a call.
Unless you just want to PM me a quote on building me a new trans with the inchworm and gear drive :israel:

Waiting on a flywheel to slap it all together. Noticed the trans mount & front drive shaft flange were also different. It goes together tomorrow, hopefully.

Tranny issues

I have a 1990 4runner, that today has decided to no longer go in gear. I have used it as daily driver for years, never had an issue then yesterday on my way back to the house driving up hill the A/T oil light came on for about 30 seconds and went away. It revved all the way to 5000RPM and I slowed down it shifted and continued on its way light off and everything. This morning after about 30 minutes of driving the light came on again but this time would not go off and it would not go over 20MPH. I figured it was transmission fluid, ironically on my way to have it fully serviced today, so we checked the fluids all full and good when i wen to resart it it would no longer go in gear.

Is this the whole transmission needing replaced or is it just solenoids?

Thanks

If it will not go into gear at all, I'd say it's rebuild time. If you didn't provide the history, I might have suggested shifter linkage.
Mine was a trooper, I could not kill it. Finally tired of the burnt trans fluid smell & worry about longer trips.
