Alright so ive got some questions..
1. Is it possible to put a v8 in the v6 trucks?
2. is there mods to give the truck a little more power ive noticed theres not that much power.
3. what are some common first bolt on mods to do.. i was thinkig headers with exhaust, new intake.

the reason i was looking into putting a v8 in is because well its a 2000 and it has 180k miles on it.. and i like the transmission that i put it into 4wd myself i dont like the whole click a button and it goes in. Thanks for any input

If you put a V8 in, you would also need to put the transmission of the V8 engine in too as I don't think the V6 transmission is strong enough to handle the V8. By doing that, you lose the manual transfer case lever and will have to go with the electronic transfer case. That's assuming you can even put the V8 in. If you want more power, see if you can find the TRD Supercharger made for the 3rd gen 4Runners.
 
You can put a V8 in, honestly anythings possible if you have a big enough checkbook. But if you really want a V8, get a 4th gen.

But, like nighthawk said, if you want more power out of a 3rd Gen look for a supercharger.
 
not posiible on a 2000 unless you change the chassis and many more parts too. the truck isn't adapted for it.
 
If you want more beef, re-gear to 4.88 or 4.56, depending on tire size. 180k means the engine is successfully past its break in period :), but I would recommend against putting a SC on the engine without a rebuild with so many miles.

Trying to stuff a V8 in there would be a PITA, and why remove a legendary engine like the 3.4?

Don't bother with headers, get a good cat back and call it a day.
Deckplate mod is easy and cheap.

If you re-gear, get the cat back, and do the deckplate mod, I think you will fell plenty of power.

Does your truck have the ECT button?

The computer will adjust to your driving style... if you want more spank, drive like a jackass.
 
I agree, putting a S/C on at 180K is not the best idea unless you rebuild the engine first. And by rebuild I mean, using OEM parts only. I would have serious doubts that a cheaply rebuilt engine would stand up to the S/C for very long w/o some issues.

My 4runner is pretty dang fast w/ 4.88s and 33s. I have more power now than when it had stock gears with 30" tires. If I did the deckplate, ISR, and a catback, it would be overkill for me and that's why I haven't bothered doing those mods. What size tires are you running?

whats the gearing thing? i have 31's on it now and i do have the ECt button
 
hey brian, u got an auto or manual? i need to regear but im unsure of wat to go with though i might hold off til i get 35s... not totally sure if im gonna go to 35s or stay at 33s

I'm auto and 4.88s are perfect for 33s - just a little more power than stock #s and I don't hit 3K rpms in O/D until 80 mph! I think most sticks go with 4.56s because they don't have the super tall O/D gear that the autos have. If I were to go 35s, 5.29 gears would be the best for an auto, but 4.88s would still work ok. If you're not sure what tire size you'll be running, I say get 4.88s (assuming you're auto too) because it's a good middle ground for 33s and 35s. If you decide you're going to 35s for sure, then get the 5.29s.
 
ok thnx for the help brian... now i just need to find a place that can do it for a reasonable price that wont break the wallet.

There's been a few guys swapping lexus 1uzfe's into 3rd gens..

I've been looking for a 3rz core to build up for boost or atleast a 1uz to build.
 
Remember magic numbers, gentlemen. The 4Runner, among other IFS trucks, requires significantly more modification to run 35s than 33s. If you go bigger than 34", you will blow front axles all day long on the trail....

Yotas tend to hold up better than others, as far as IFS axles go, but the 4Runners just aren't really built for 35s. Driving on 35s will include enough modification that you may as well bite the bullet and go straight for the waggy front axle.

I run 33s. The only thing that holds me back on the trails is my unwillingness to accept body damage.
