About to pull the trigger on a 20 inch rim. What do yout think?

I'm about to pull the trigger on this set of rims in 20 inches Helo HE868 Machined w/Black Accent



With the Nitto 850 Plus CUV in 265/50 R20.

Anybody on here have HELO wheels? What are your impressions of the quality? According to a TireRack (take this for what its worth) rep, all their wheels are equivalent to OEM quality or better.

Reason why I'm changing the wheels? Mainly for the look, plus I need new tires.

I don't offroad the truck, its just highway driven and there's hardly any snow anymore in Southern Ontario.

Its ok, as long you like it, have you try discount tire? You can run 275 55 20 tires, more rubber and more comfort.

The 20 inch rim is 8.5 inches wide and the widest recommended tire is 265.

Its an 8.5 inch rim that's why it's not advisable to go wider than 265 mm on the tire width. If it was 9.5 inch rim, 275 mm would be the recommended tire width or even 285 with sidewall of the tire bending outwards slightly.

Scheduled date of install is March 8th just across the border in Niagara Falls NY. Will be buying the wheels and tires tomorrow.

I'm running 12.5" (actually closer to 13") wide tires on an 8.5" wheel. That's the minimum width req'd to run this size tire. Don't get too caught up on "recommended" sizes. Like they mentioned earlier. Our trucks come with 265's on a 7.5" wheel from the factory so I'd say you'd be okay running a (10mm) wider tire on a (1") wider wheel. As long as you've got sufficient offset/backspacing to account for the extra width.

Good luck. Post pics! I still love my twinkies for the street. Not the best off-road and definitely not the best when it comes to cost of rubber. But that's the price you pay.

If anything, I wish I could drop the truck and make it less off-road friendly, but more aerodynamic improve the looks somewhat .

Now you're asking, why the heck did I buy a 4Runner? Its reliability and spaciousness (the Home Depot runs etc). That combination is hard to beat based on the competition - I looked at a PathFinder, Pilot and a few other trucks within my budget of $12K last year and this was the only one that satisfied those two criteria.

Mine was the Daystar 2.5/1.5. Everything cleared except for the front fender liner, like where the little hump drops down on the black plastic. I just unfastened a couple of bolt, pushed it forward a little and zip tied it in place. Other than that it cleared everything else... Oh wait. I had to remove the front mud flap as well. Whoops, forgot about that part.

So do you have a 2wd? They already sit pretty low. If you look at the X-SP package 4Runner. They came from the factory at stock ride height with 20" Enkei's. As long as you stay close to the factory overall width and size, which in this case is 265/50, you shouldn't need any modification. Hope that helps.

With an 8.5" wheel with proper backspacing you won't need spacers. It should sit where you want it to. Mine are perfectly flush with the side of the truck. The whole point of spacers is to adapt backspacing of wheels you already have (like stockers). But when you buy aftermarket, you just buy the backspacing that you want and eliminate the need for a spacer. Also, with a spacer though, you might find that you start to rub on things (fender liner, mud flaps, body mounts, etc.) anyway.

But if you're so in inclined, the popular flavors among our guys are spidertrax, all-pro, and BORA. Usually in the 1.25" to 1.5" varieties.

I have no idea if the wheels I'm getting will have the appropriate backspacing. Since I picked them from the standard tire/wheel selection tool on TireRack.com, I'm assuming they would be exactly like the stock setup, which probably means that I could use spacers. Does that make sense?

That's not necessarily true. The aftermarket wheels are wider and will probably default to increased backspacing anyway (most do), but maybe you can go to the manufacturers website (Helo) and see what they offer in that model. Then specify the one you want. If there isn't choices maybe there is a spec that tells you what they're set at. You don't want to count on running spacers if you're buying aftermarket wheels, you want to order the right part. Nothing against spacers, it's just not ideally what you want to have to do, if you don't have to.

Bam! Good info Evan. So that would equate to you putting about 1-1/8" spacer on your stock wheel.

I just placed my order today. Now I just need to finalize a date when I go to Niagara Falls in NY and get the wheels/tires installed. Tire shop in Niagara Falls (Kendzia Tire) said they expect delivery in about a week.
