About to purchase 2008 4Runner, opinions welcome

We are about to purchase a 2008 4Runner SR5, it has 36,800 miles, it has a moonroof, running boards, audio steering wheel controls, 4 wheel drive, roof rack, it's the charcoal gray color which we like as well. The CARFAX is clean, no issues with the car at all.

The price that I got the dealership down to is 23,800, out the door for 25,000. Do you all think this is a good deal? The car has some minor scratches that are not noticeable unless you get right up to them and I told the dealership that I wanted them addressed before I go back on Saturday to hopefully purchase the vehicle.

Any opinions about the vehicle and price are welcome.

I don't know where you're located but it sounds high to me as well. I know there's an 08' close to me that's been on the lot for a long time... it's now $20,900 (SR5 w/40k).
 
We bought out 07 with 35,000 miles for 25,700 only 3 months ago, which is ridiculously cheap compared to some of the others that are similar. What you listed would sell for around 30 to 34 where i'm from.

The next time I buy, if the canadian dollar is still high, i'll be giving these a good hard look in other locations. Where is the cheapest place to buy in Canada? It sure isn't Saskatchewan or Alberta!!
 
It does have the 17" tires on it. But the prices of all the used 4Runners in my area, Richmond Virginia, are that price or higher, so i'm not sure if it's where we are and the demand for them pushes up the price or what the deal is. There are some dealerships that are selling used 4Runners with more miles than the one we're most likely going to get for 3-4000 more than the $23,800 price i'm getting.

The car we really wanted is a brand new 2010 because those are pretty amazing but they are just a tad over our budget. Anyway thanks for the opinions and any more are welcome.

Look for cars via the classifieds. You won't get the dealer markup there.

Toyota is very aggressive in buying back used 4Runners. I've gotten countless postcards asking for me to sell my truck back.
 
I noticed, when searching for mine, Toyota is aggressive with pricing. You will pay a premium for this vehicle...it just depends how much you're willing to pay. Generally, pricing is going to be within a few thousand dollars of each other. Identify the options that are important to you and buy the truck.

I purchased an '07 limited with everything I wanted for less then $20k. The compromise was that it has high miles. That didn't concern me too much considering everything checked out. Carfax listed every oil change since new. Toyota's reputation and the Carfax gave me enough reassurance to purchase the vehicle.
 
I would search Autotrader.com and compare prices. Also find a car broker that attends auctions and tell him what you're looking for.
 
IIRC, if it has steering wheel controls than it is a Sport Edition or Limited, someone correct me on this if I'm wrong. Does it have the hood scoop? That is a good price if you are in So. Cal, IMO.

My brother has a 2005 SR5 V6 4WD with steering wheel controls.
 
If its clean and you like it go for it. Factor in for new tires as the stock tires suck anyway. Theres plenty of life left with those miles.
 
Sounds like it's an SR5 will value pakage options. I bought a 2008 SR5 V6 4WD with value package, 28,00 miles, just over a year ago. Paid 18,500 from a broker. All the dealers in this area wanted 24-25 K for the same basic vehicle.
Check out some brokers in your area, they do not rape their customers and a no haggle policy.
 
18,500 is a great price you got for that car, ours is a SR5 not the sport or limited, I am assuming that it has a value package because it has the audio controls and the moonroof and running boards etc. The problem that we have is that my wife's car was totaled which is why we're bying this 4Runner. We have the rental for a limited time so we don't have months to pursue the broker option which would have been ideal. I mean the price seems reasonable compared to others in my area and i'm not concerned with the mileage either as Toyotas will last forever. Thank you all for the comments and such.
 
I bought my NEW '08 V6 Sport in November 2008. The options were the value package ($1500) plus tow package, floor & cargo mats a few other minor things I can't recall. MSRP sticker was $35,800 and change. I paid $30,000 & loose change out the door after all fee's.

For a used vehicle with that kind of mileage and a model with less standard equipment, you should be able to do better. If I can't talk the sales manager or owner down at least to invoice price, I'm out the door. They STILL make money.
