Abrupt deceleration

Hi,

I've noticed lately everytime I my runner changes gear from lower to next, I feel abrupt deceleration before it shift and go back again to normal speed even if my feet is in gas pedal during the process. Not sure if this is normal with auto tranny as I normally drove manual tranny before.

Do anybody also noticed this? I have 47k miles in my Odo.

Ya let us know what you're running it in, we'll get a better idea on why it is downshifting so hard.

I notice mine shifts into a lower gear when I take my foot off the gas while slowing down. But not when I am driving at a normal speed.

When I came from stop or very slow, while on D and gas on pedal. If the tranny's about to shift to the next gear, It feels like sudden slow in speed. When the gear shifted to its next level, sudden acceleration can be felt. It does not happen on 1st to 2nd gear only. Sometimes 2nd to 3rd or even 3rd to 4th gear. Its not during down shifting.

Yup.

As the engine reaches higher RPMs (and you get to the end of the gear) the torque begins to drop off and as a result your rate of acceleration decreases. That'll feel like a deceleration. When the tranny shifts to the next gear the RPMs drop down and the engine produces more torque again so you get strong acceleration.

The reason you really feel it in 1st and 2nd is because these gears are relatively "short" compared to 3rd+.

It is certainly less noticeable with newer technology, but it will still be there if you really mash on the gas. If you have a CVT then you won't notice it.
