ABS kicks on sharp turns

I'm having a problem where every once in a while when I'm turning hard to the left or making a sharp U-Turn in that direction my ABS kicks on and stops me for a split second and then I can proceed. It's driving me insane. Does anyone know what this could be? Possibly bad sensor or wheel bearing?

Have you done a ZPC (Zero Point Calibration) since you installed your lift? That's probably the culprit, when you raise the vehicle the yaw rate & g-force sensors need to recalibrated, it helps mitigate much of that premature VSC/TRAC kicking in.
 
sounds like you didnt do a zero point calibration after your lift. the turns are putting the yaw rate sensor out of its set bounds causing the VSC to kick as it thinks your reaching the roll point.
 
Zero point calibration came to mind for me as well. If this was the 3rd gen section, they would tell you to disable it.
 
Maybe the lift is causing one wheel to lose traction? I haven't heard of that but when you start changing suspension weird things can happen.

I haven't heard of needing ZPC after lift either. Yaw rate is the same no matter how high the vehicle is. Roll rate is different, but ZPC doesn't let you calibrate for higher roll rate, it just sets the zero point which should be the same no matter what. I guess if old ZPC data was wrong then calibrating should fix it. If it only happens in one direction that suggests ZPC would help.

The yaw rate and deceleration sensor is a combined sensor assembly mounted in the center console.

• The deceleration sensor monitors the vehicle’s forward and backward
movement along the “Y” axis and lateral movement along the “X” axis.

• The yaw rate sensor monitors the vehicle’s pivotal movement around its
center, or “Z” axis.

It's basically a level, yaw rate, and g-force sensor packaged into one module; I imagine the ZPC is mainly to set the Zero to what the vehicle at rest on level ground should be. Lifting the vehicle alters the angle somewhat, depending on many factors; this could impart erroneous data to be interpreted by the Skid Control ECU. Like I said, it won't change much; but if the "Zero" on the Yaw Rate sensor is not level after the vehicle is lifted, the error could be compounded in turns and cause the VSC to react prematurely/erroneously.

Technically you're supposed to reset/relearn ZPC after EVERY alignment or change to the vehicle suspension.

Note the orientation of your obdII plug. Mine was upside down from the fsm picture. #2 & 3 to clear and calibrate. Easily done with 2 small wires or paper clips

So theoretically, even if you go to a taller tire or do a BL, neither of which have anything to do with suspension or alignment, you may have to do another ZPC because you've changed the center of gravity ("Z" axis)?
 
After my body lift with new front body mounts, and bigger tires I now have some over reaction of the ABS on one specific turn from one road to another on my commute. I'm going to try a ZPC and see if it corrects it. When I very first put my lift on and had it aligned they gave it back to me with every dash light on and all it needed was a ZPC. I haven't done it since with a couple spring/shock changes.
 
I think this is a normal thing for the 4runner. Even after ZPC the abs still kicks in for me on any turn that I make faster than 5mph. Even if I turn into a parking lot from a road, the thing still kicks in.
 
Wow! I remember needing to do this after I lifted her years ago, but haven't and have always thought, "Man, Toyota ABS and VSC is crap on this gravel road!" I'm glad I can fix this nuisance now!
 
someone please school on me on this zpc thing. this must be done by the dealer with special computer? how much does this generally cost? this is my first time hearing about this.

Mine does it when I hit a turn on to an incline kind of fast, but it's because my tires rub on the stupid liners, I know that's the reason on mine because I hear the tire run as it starts beeping lol
