My 2004 4Runner SR5 2WD intermittently engages the ABS when braking. It's not a warped rotor based on how it feels and that it's so intermittent.
It has 170k miles on it, and it seems to happen more often when it's hot out, which makes me suspect an electrical component. I first noticed it summer of 2013, but it happened so rarely I wasn't motivated to mess with it. Now it's happening almost every time it's driven.
Yesterday at one point my wife got the VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF, and ABS lights but they went off again before she even got home. It's maybe the second time I'm aware of those lights coming on.
I have an appointment with the local Toyota dealer tomorrow, but if the lights are off will there be codes in memory? I don't want to make an 80 mile round trip and a diagnostic fee if they can't tell me anything useful.
