No, not a common thing that I'm aware of. I think it's more likely that the ABS sensor wire harness itself would be damaged if the mechanic tugged on it too hard. You unclip the connector from the old assembly, remove the old hub, install the new hub, then reattach the wire harness to the ABS connector. If the mechanic forgot to unclip the wire harness first it might have been damaged.
