ABS sensor ring removal

Going to tackle replacement of both cv-half shafts on 2006, whats the best and easiest way to remove old sensor rings and reinstall on shafts.

I don't believe that there are sensor rings on the CV shafts. You just need replacement shafts. Replace your differential output shaft seals as well while you're in there.

The ABS Tone rings are internal to the wheel bearings themselves not the CV shaft on the front axle.

Here's a crazy question. Is it possible for the tone ring to move so far out of the way that you cant see it when looking through the wheel speed sensor hole?

By itself? Not sure how that would happen honestly. As a result of pressing it together? Yes it is very possible.

Sorry I didn't realize the context of that question. In our vehicles the ABS Tone Rings are internal to the bearings themselves, you can't visually see them. I was thinking of the rear axle on older Toyota trucks that had a separate tone ring.

Yes it can. Mine did. Possibly due to shop messing up the install.

This makes sense, and now looking at new hub assemblies, matches what I see through the hole.

Back to square one.

Humour me for a bit more thread-jacking...

The ABS, Traction, VSC lights have been on for a long time.

Did the paperclip thing, and got:
DTC 31 for ABS: Front right wheel speed sensor or wire
DTC 51 and 43 for VSC: ABS general warning indicator, and ECM fault detected

So I checked the continuity of the front right wheel speed sensor wires, from the sensor-side of the wiring harness, to the top of the wheel-well wiring harness connection point. Both wires were fine. Not sure where the rest of the wire goes to, into a ECM of some kind, somewhere...

I checked the impedience of both front wheel speed sensors, and they were almost identical.

Then I pulled the passenger side sensor, broke it in half due to the o-ring being rusted into the hub. Swearing. Sanding of rust. Replaced the sensor with a new one.

Disconnected the battery. Did a 0-point calibration.

I'll check for AC voltage on the sensor wiring harness when spinning the tire tomorrow. That's about all I know to test now.

I have exactly the same issue with my FR ABS light on my 2004 Limited right. Broke the original ABS sensor while trying to pry it out and removing it, replaced with a new one, did thorough cleaning. Still have the errors - C0200 (front speed sensor RH circuit), C1223 (ABS Control System Malfunction). It did throw a "foreign matter attached to the sensor" due to the greasy tip of the sensor. Obviously I cleaned it up reinstalled the sensor but the error codes keep coming back.

Next I had tried changing the front right wheel speed sensor wiring harness (OEM Toyota). Pain to weave it around and into all the little clips. This did not fix the issue.

The next and final step for me was buying an OEM wheel speed sensor from Toyota for something like $150 if I remember correctly.

I had originally put in an Amazon special that was a fraction of the high priced OEM, and looks just like the OEM. It had similar impedance, but there must be more to those Toyota sensors?

As soon as I changed to an OEM, the warning lights went off, and everything works normally again.
