I have an '01 SR5 with 141K on the clock - it's a great vehicle! I purchased it a year ago at a salvage yard, I think a tree fell on the roof so we replaced the roof panel and did some body work on the rear door - all in all I've got a low mileage 4X4 for $4,000.
Months after the fix I was taking it through a car wash and notice a trickle of water coming from the seam between the headliner and windshield directly above the passenger seat. I've meant to repair it for a while now but can't seem to justify the time.... I have no excuse - heck I could have the windshield replaced for free here in AZ thanks to state insurance laws. Moving on...
In March we had crazy weather in Phoenix - when it rains here it freaking dumps unlike anything I've ever seen... much like being in a car wash. Well needless to say I noticed a little wetness on my headliner - nothing new, however one morning I head to work and the VSC, TRAC, and ABS Lights are on. I stop, power off the engine, and restart - it's mildly common for those lights to appear but they typically go off after a restart. Not this time. I give it a day figuring my trusty 4Runner will work itself out....
The following day I've got the same problem... I get creative and test the VSC to see if it is truly off. Rounding a corner I drop the gas and the rear tire spins, shortly after the gas is shut off and TRAC engages... obviously functioning. Same with the ABS - very clearly pumping the breaks when depressed in extreme situations.
Another quirk develops but takes a little time for me to pinpoint the cause. when I light up my Right Turn Signal (Right only - this does not happen when using the Left Turn Signal) my lights function normally until I depress the brake, at which point my turn signals blink fast or flicker as if there was a bad bulb or short. Both lights work fine as far as emitting light, I've replaced both of them to be sure. It's very consistent and has been going on for about 2 months now (I know I should have taken care of this long ago).
Other than the intermittent turn signal short the car performs 100%. I have not applied any mods, I've seen guys having problems with these lights after swapping their dash lights for LED's. The only 'mod' on the car are the 2012 SR5 rims I found on craigslist and threw on her.
The wiring is impeccable. The previous owners never tried installing 3rd party remote starters, or anything of the matter. I cannot find any signs or fraying, water damage, corrosion, etc.
As far as troubleshooting goes I've found the following.
5 ABS Codes
C1207 - PNP Switch / Circuit
C1223 - ABS Control System Malfunction
C1224 - NE Signal Circuit
C1241 - IG Power Source Circuit (This may be incorrect I'm doing it from memory)
C1269 - PNP Switch Circuit
I've got a decent working knowledge of low voltage and mechanical systems, by I am by no means an expert. It often takes lots of reading and a few attempts to successfully apply a fix.
I have visually inspected all the connections and there is nothing out of the ordinary.
My Multimeter is in my tool bag at work, I'll get more detailed in my search one night this week.
I'm curious to see what the results are for the C1269 troubleshooting is as it involves the ground for the brake - I've read dozens of testimonials regarding the codes reported and the brake / blinker issue is unique to anything I've heard so far.
Do any of you 3rd Gen Gods have any suggestions or wise thoughts? I'll be following the repair manual when I get my tools back but wanted to see if you guys see anything I don't.
