Had my first real panic stop in my 04 the other day. Going through an intersection on a green light. Crossing a divided road.
Just as I am about the clear the divider, a Volvo comes blasting through from my right. Wham! I am on the brakes hard. A habit I picked up since my 2000 Passat, which has awesome punch-the-pedal-and-let-the-computer-do-the-stopping-for-you brakes.
Now, the Runner stopped fine. Straight. Quickly enough to prevent what would have been a very nasty accident.
But I heard some definite tire chirping.
Anyone know how the brakes on the 04 work? I am used to the crunchy gravel feel of the ABS brakes on my other vehicle. This felt smooth, but sounded terrible.
