AC Compressor noise???

Have a 97 4Runner and when it's running the AC Compressor is making a lot of noise. When I turn the AC off the the clutch plate wiggles a little bit. AC still runs great. Anyone have any fixes or ideas what I could do? Or am I screwed and gonna have to get it replaced. Thanks.

Just replace the compressor, the clutch and bearings are bad.. You don't want it to seize up. That will cause more problems for you. Obviously you will have to have the system evaced and re-filled again

Yeah I was just trying to see if I could save some money. Do you know if I could replace just the clutch plate and bearings myself and still be okay? I could replace the whole thing myself I just don't have the equipment to do the evac and recharge.

This might be related to the issue I'm having. My AC doesn't make a lot of noise per se, but it definitely makes my rough idle even rougher when the compressor kicks on.

Or is that just my AC compressor exacerbating whatever rough idle issue I'm already having?

Well if it still blows cold I think everything is okay as far as the compressor goes. I ordered a clutch plate bearing and am going to replace that and I think it's fix the noise issue. It's coming in today and I'll put it in myself this weekend. I'll let you know if it works. Here's the link to the bearing that'll fit my 97.
