Accessing head unit

I am looking to access the back of the head unit in my 99 4runner, and I havent found any step by step guides so far, how can I do this?

i can say my 01 is way different..

i open the armrest, pull up the e-brake, then slowly pry the trim around the ebrake up and out. when this is off, i remove the 4wd shifter knob, and pull up that trim, again slowly. then i take off the center trim.

i then took a socket with an extension to reach the screws. it took some angling, but itll come out.

You should be able to take the trim around the shift knobs off without taking the emergency brake trim out. Take a look at that link I gave and try it on your car. I thought the same as what you said at first untill me and my dad tried the way the site said and we got it out of place.

oh, i know.. i was saying how to remove all the trim.

sorry i should have qualified that...

i did that though because i ran the sirius satellite antenna wire through there.
