Accessory Power "Auto Power Off" Feature

Hi All,

Finally landed in a 2013 4Runner Limited in Blizzard Pearl after debating a 4Runner for 2 years. Really happy with it so far! Looking forward to camping and drive-ins and anything else it might enable us to do.

I searched the forum and found one previous thread but no answer so I thought I would try again. Our 4Runner with the "Smart Key" system only allows accessory power for 20 minutes and ON (without engine running) power for 60 minutes at a time before returning to OFF (per the owner's manual). Unfortunately, this really doesn't allow us to enjoy a drive-in movie like we had hoped/planned and doesn't allow for much of a tailgating event with "Party Mode" if you're having to constantly power the vehicle back on.

Does anyone have a work-around/bypass for the time limits in either ACC or ON positions? I have a feeling this might pertain only to the "Smart Key" 4Runners.

The power only 'Sleeps' if there is no accessory activity (dormant or idle) for more than 60 mins; as a Safety feature to prevent a dead battery if accessories (Headlights, Dome light...) are left on overnight. I guess one remedy would be to 'refresh' the electrical system e.g., tap the brake pedal, pull down the visor, open a door...etc before the time lapses. There may be an option to 'Defeat' that function... I'm sure some of the other members... [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION], [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] or [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] can help you with the 'HOW TO'! BTW... I have the exact same vehicle, 2012 limited in Blizz lol!

Subscribed. Almost done installing a second battery, so it'd be a lot more useful if the system didn't power off.

Thanks for the responses so far, unfortunately it seems that no one has conquered this concern. I guess what I will probably end up doing is installing a rocker switch to give the radio +12V when the vehicle is off but remember to turn it back off in accessory or ON state. I also did some reading regarding putting the vehicle in neutral then shutting it down and that may retain power, I hope so!

ps...carry jumper cables if you don't have a dual battery setup as you may need them.:snacker:

Thanks Harper. I was actually going to reply again with my results because I had read the same earlier and just tried it tonight. I didn't wait a full hour as I had to go but leaving it in neutral and turning off the 4Runner seems to work. It even chimes if you open the door, which to me means warning power is still on and isn't going to turn off. Cool! Very happy there's a simple workaround!
