Accuracy of multi-information display (fuel consumption, temp, etc)

I have a 2004 v6 SR5 T4R and I've found the multi-information display in the middle of the dash, below the audio controls, to be inaccurate. The computer calculated Average MPG to be about 2 MPG off from when I crunch the numbers myself (miles driven divided by gallons used), i.e. it shows 20.5 MPG when I calculate it to be about 18.5 MPG. Has anyone else found this to be true on your 4th gen T4R? Or does anyone know how a way to correct it so it's more accurate?

The error is almost exactly at 10%

If it says 18 actual 18-1.8=16.2
15 actual 15-1.5=13.5
22 actual 22-2.2=19.8


At least that's been my experience using the odometer.

The odometer apears to be accurate, but the speedometer is about 5 % optomistic... for example 50 mph indicated is actually 47.5 in reality.

Good observations on the average fuel consumption being about 10% off. I'll try tracking it that way for a bit.

How'd you figure out the speedometer was overly optimistic too... did you have someone keep pace with you? Did you put a different size tire on your truck?

Has anyone stumbled across the sequence required to switch over this display from US to Metric? This topic has been discussed previously but I don't believe there was a solution.

You can check the speedo accuracy with a GPS - even my hand heldp ETREX Legend provides that capability.

I agree that a GPS would be a better measure of actual speed but keep in mind that your speedometer is not precise and has a range that it should stay in to be funtioning normally. I.E: 20 mph on my speedometer is allowed to actually be between 18-24 mph. Cops are really good at measuring speed too. . .maybe too good

I believe you are correct -- no way to switch it over that anyone has discovered.
