Activating the security system

I know on my wife's highlander when you have keyless entry you can activate the security system by pressing the buttons on the remote in a certain order. Then you add the flashing light and glass break sensor for about $40 and you have the security option.

Anyone know if this can be done on the 4Runner? I assume it can. Does anyone know how?

Nope, can't be done. The reason you can do that with the Highlander and some Tundras is because the alarm brain is already installed. I think the keyless entry uses the alarm brain to function. The 4Runner's keyless entry, IIRC, is built into the ECU, not the alarm brain. The alarm kit for the 4Runner includes the alarm brain, so you'll need to get the entire kit to get it to function correctly.

Yep......Tk4r is right!
I purchased the whole aftermarket system from online. You will have to splice into some wiring beneath the glove box, run a wire over to the fuse area, and install the glass breakage sensor. Be advised....the aftermarket glass sensor goes under the glove box area instead of beside the flashing security light on the factory security system. The aftermarket setup makes the glass sensor "less" sensitive in my opinion. One would have to break your glass window with a loud bang for the sensor to pick it up. I could NOT get the alarm to activate by tapping on my passenger side window. I actually had to get a wine glass from cabinet, sit in the passenger seat and tap on the wine glass with my key to activate the alarm. Good luck but it does add some sort of sercurity!
