ADD question

when I put my 4runner into 4H or 4L I can hear the click and feel it lurch as it kicks in but I don't get any light on the dash, but yet I can take it off road and you can tell it's engaged

should I ignore it?

when I have it in 4H in park I can't turn the front drive shaft

There is a sensor on the side of the tranny what tells the dash light its in 4wd. Could have a broken wire or dash light out.

There are several sensors that control the lighting of the 4WD dash light.
One is on the ADD unit on the front axle, another is on the t-case (manual trans) and if you have the auto trans there are 2 on the t-case. There are also some vacuum solenoids and a relay involved.

Thats what was wrong with mine. On the passenger side of the tranny is a wire connection. Mine came unplugged, the wires pulled out of the plug. I pushed them back in and it's worked ever since.
