-> Addicted Off Road Group Buy <- June 13th - July 13th

Wired up the LED turn signals like a doofus this afternoon, cold and rainy out. If I had given it some thought I probably would have opted to not order the turn signals and cut outs and do the corner light blinker mod. Additionally, I would have wired flat spade crimps or whatever they're called to the lights and shoved them in the factory bulb holders. Drivers side I used butt connectors, passenger side I used the easy-splice connectors and maintained the factory harness. No explanation, had enough parts to do both the same way. Also wired up those LED spot lights. Still need to run a switch but holy moly they're bright.

What's your opinion of the turn signals? Yours look different than the ones that came in my buddies bumper. His didn't seem quite bright enough so I was planning on supplementing them but yours are different. Are they plenty bright?

Scratch that in red. Just went back and looked at some pictures. They are the same.

Looks awesome! Looking forward to getting mine!

Didn't test them out tonight, just during the day - and haven't left my parking spot since before the bumper was mounted. I'll give them a good test tomorrow.

I think they're bright enough during the day. It appears clear when they're off, and flash amber, so I think there will be enough definition for oncoming traffic during the day to tell they're blinking. But no, they're not overly bright. I'd say they're equal to my halogen stock turn signals in their filthy hazed housings. Honestly, I'd run fogs in them if I could find something that fit perfectly and still do the corner light blinker mod.

My only expectations of turn signals is that they're bright enough to notify oncoming traffic of my intention to turn and not make cops come after me for not signaling. I think these accomplish that just fine.

Thanks - yeah, the body lift gap doesn't bother me, just mentioned it to others who may be wondering. I'm still wondering about how off the bumper is from the fenders, since it was asked when I ordered I have to assume that they do make two different bumpers to fit flush with SR5 or Limited flares. Mine would definitely be more flush with limited flares... so... someone who mentioned they have a limited may be in the same boat as I'm in and get the wrong bumper (mine) Sorry, we both lose. I'm cool with it though.

I only have a 1/2" BL on mine right now so i don't think i'll have much of a gap?The pics of the bumper on the 4th Gen looked pretty flush so hopefully it will be just the right amount of a gap. I was thinking of moving up to a 1" BL but i'm going to wait until i get the bumper on and see how it's sitting. Oh wow i wasn't aware there was different options on the 3rd Gen bumpers for the fender flares?

Yeah Limited 3rd gens have fat fenders. You can compare mine to hours to see the difference.

Ehgg. After the painting and mounting process I'm less enthusiastic about the whole thing knowing mine should have been a better fit. If you're mailed an SR5 bumper... trade? Just kidding, but... whack.

know they're swamped but thank god I got it for GB price. It's up to $825 on their site now.

NYC,
Have you heard anything about the shipping schedule yet? It's now at 3 months.

Also, I ordered from Scotty directly so I'm not listed on the first page. If you're updating the shipping status could you add me to the list as well?

No i haven't heard anything about shipping schedules? I know it's frustrating for all of us but i'm in the same boat as the rest of you guys. Actually all you guys will probably be getting your bumpers first being that the 06-09s were the last to be finished so i'm sure will be receiving ours last. It sucks but i'm ok with that as long as in the end i get a Quality finished product. I think the GB ended up being a little bigger than expected which is why everything got soo backed up but yeah hopefully we will all be getting are bumpers very soon! I'll also try to reach out to scotty and see where everything is at. I will add you to the list on the front page too...

I just looked at the list and so far 2 bumpers have been delivered almost two months after the scheduled delivery dates (4-6 weeks). Can we please get an update just so I can plan around my build? Thanks

I know Scotty told me in person that they had expected significantly less response from the group buy, like half of what came through - but if he had thought that, and planned for that, shouldn't all ten or whatever have been out and installed a month ago? They were definitely working when I got there to pick mine up - a couple guys doing something to an SAS 4runner and Scotty was at a computer, I think controlling some parts cutting machine (a table filled with water, and sparks flying everywhere). Definitely not cranking out more bumpers.

He did mention that they moved away from 100% welding the bumpers to having them press bent, and he's mentioned that a few times in this thread. Said that people complained about how paint looked on fully welded bumpers, so they moved on to having parts bent. Maybe that's the bottleneck. He also stated that it takes relatively little time to weld up everything, but the grinding is time consuming. Who the hell knows. Hope he chimes in soon and that people get their correct bumper. I took this picture today and after looking at it for a few seconds I realize how uncool it is to have SR5 flares with a bumper meant for limiteds. :suspicious:

Oh yeah if you want to install your license plate like I have mine on, get self tapping screws no longer than an inch. You can't use a nut and bolt because you can't hold the nut on the inside of the front plate. The holes themselves aren't threaded. I farted around with this for like 30 minutes until I found two matching self tapping ones in my tool box.

Nice, I hope people start getting their bumpers before this turns into a big mess. I really hope someone can prove me wrong but this is not looking good. For anyone who remembers the LED light bar group buy from a while back, we can only hope it doesn't turn into that.

Ok, as I mentioned before, I am not getting emails from T4r in regards to my subscriptions. And NO they aren't going to my junk mail. I am subscribed to this thread, but for some reason am not getting emails other than PM emails. I have no idea why.

Only reason I even knew there was an issue with this thread is because of a PM I got from from NYC Runner(because I get those notification) and because I got a FB message from GVL tonight about it. So, here is my shop's email. [email protected] and my shop #: 970-420-4198.

Please understand that I am not trying to screw anyone over, and I will guarantee that everyone will get there bumper as soon as possible. That being said, this will be a long post so bear with me.

I will answer as many questions as I can TONIGHT in this post so people will understand what is going on and I will post some pics of where we are currently at in the shop with the production on these TOMORROW when I get in there.

We just got a bunch of bumpers back from press bend on Thursday of last week. Glade has welded all of the wings up on these and started to assemble some of them today. These go in stages. We get wings welded up, then ground down, and then we start to assemble them into bumpers, then they all get sanded again to get the weld spatter off of them. Then the stingers are and smaller diameter front tubes are added. Then LEDs are cut into the bumpers and light tabs added if you requested them. Then one more sanding. This takes several days to work through these when you are working with 8-10 bumpers at a time.

I tried to explain in a previous post that when the group buy was originally presented, than I estimated turn times of 3-4 weeks for 3rd gens and 4-6 weeks for 4th gens. Keep in mind that this was literally about two weeks after we finished the first prototype of the 4th gen bumper and released it. Everyone wanted them, so I decided to go ahead and do it. Well, I bit off way more than I could chew with this group buy. I figured that 6-7 bumpers TOPS would be ordered. Well, 21 were ordered. Obviously that killed the turn times estimated by a lot. This isn't an excuse, its fact.

I hope to have four more 3rd gens shipped and the lone 2nd gen bumper shipped by the end of this week. And I have more coming in next week.

As far as Hour's concerns with his bumper's crossmember. I really wish he would have called me on these issues. I had no idea there was any issue with the crossmember until I just read his post. So, I will address it now. What you guys see in his pictures is what is called "kerf" from the plasma torch. When a plasma tip gets dull it will arc at a not so perfect 90* line. So, when you cut holes that bolts are supposed to slide through, this sometimes happens. So, we typically dremmel out the holes where you have that tall ridge. This must have been missed on his crossmember. I assure you this is not the norm, but there will always be a little kerf on any cut piece on a plate. His was not caught. That QC issue will always come back on me. And, I do apologize, since I should always catch something like that before it leaves my shop.

Look, I completely understand everyone's frustration with this group buy and the delays. I have no excuse. Its on me, and I will do everything I can to get caught up.

Its another reason why the pricing went up on the website as we cannot keep up with demand, so I am slowing things down so we can deliver a quality product ON TIME in the future. In the past 9mo we have literally tripled the bumper production in the shop. Its crippled the turn times. Its a hard lesson to learn. We had to raise pricing so we can afford to hire another guy to stay on top of things.

That being said, someone who will remain nameless mentioned something about me working on the buggy I am building taking away from building bumpers. I want to be clear about something here. The buggy has taken two years to even get this far because I have NOT worked on it when things got busy. I have ALWAYS put it on the back burner to make sure a customer came first and still do. So, even if I am posting progress on that right now, its being done after hours and on weekends in my spare time or after hours ONLY. So, please do not think for a second that it has somehow taken priority over your bumper order. Myself and Teddy (neither of who build bumpers) work on this for an hour or two after the day is over. I spend Saturday by myself working on it after a 50hr work week has already gone down, and still can barely get anything done on it as is.

So, if for some reason you want cancel your order for fear of never receiving it, I have no issue with that. But, I have never not fulfilled an order in 7+ yrs of building these. I can assure you that you will get a badass bumper in the end. Just bear with me.

I think what people want to know is at least a ball park figure for ship times. I'm damn near the end of the list so its not looking good for me. I don't want a rushed product either but I also don't want to be waiting another 6 weeks. We understand the group buy brought in more interest than anticipated but the thread could have been updated with longer ship times and we wouldn't even be having this discussion now. If the original time frame was 4-6 weeks you would think more than 2 would have been done by week 13. I think that's what has us all freaking out.

So any estimate of ship time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for replying and givng us an update.

Not trying to add fuel to the fire but I own my own business and lol at your 50 hour work week. Add in two kids 8 & 10, and mobile service calls after my regular work day for two large fleets, then we can talk no spare time.

Well, I have four kids. 4,12,15,17. And a wife with chronic arthritis. So, yes, my plate is quite full outside the shop.

since bumpers are a sore subject...i see you have a RTT. is that a CVT Mt bachelor? it looks small. I have a CVT Mt. Rainier :)

No its a ARB Kakatu tent. Also I knew bumpers are a bad subject now but when I have $900 (paid in full) invested in something I would like to be told when its coming.

My mother in law had cronic arthitis too, we using something called Humeria (spelling?) works wonders for her. She has a GSW to her right arm and several severed tendons from that. after 2nd dosage of the humera, pain was gone.

dont know if you knew about that or not.

I just got off the phone with my press bender guy/solidworks guy. The 06-09 layout will be done by tomorrow morning. I will get it nested into my cut program software and have all of the 06-09s cut by Friday and dropped back off. I explained the urgency on this stuff, and he said he will come in this weekend and bend out every bumper on the group buy list plus a few more.

Its hard to estimate an exact ship date, but I should be able to fulfill every order on the list in the next three weeks. That means that we "should" be able to ship them all by November 7th.

If anyone cannot wait that long, please let me know. Again, I understand the frustration, and will do everything in my power to get these done on time.

As far as this week's shipping is concerned. These bumpers will ship or be ready to pick up on Friday:
1. GVL
2. Thor999
3. MasonT4R
4. Lukerhods
5. 949runner

Flipstyle54 is already shipped and I will forward him tracking info via PM today.
