Adding additional accessory power connections??

I need to add a couple of extra accessory power outlets/connections.

One needs to be a switched connection that will be used to power a semi-permanently mounted GPS unit mounted to the dash.

The other needs to be an unswitched power outlet that I can plug my kid’s DVD player into so it doesn’t shut down every time I shut the vehicle off. This one needs to be in the back seat area or close by.

Any suggestions on where/how to tap into power for these connections and mount the outlet for the back seat?

Here's where my heated seats and CB radio are tapped in. The fifth fuse down on the right usually doesn't exist, so you could get a fuse tap, or this funny looking fuse the heated seat installers used.

The fuse is on when the key is ON, but not when it is only at ACC.

Thanks for the inputs. Just for clarification, I am just wanting to add 12 volt DC accessory outlets.

Is that a special fuse you are tapping into?

Yea that's some funky thing the heated seat installers used. I've never seen one like that before. I'm used to seeing these: Bussmann BP/HHH ATM Fuse Tap (2 Pack) at OutdoorPros.com

To tap into under the dash you'll need to get an ATM fuse tap. I believe most of the fuses under the hood are ATC type.

Also, pick up some extra fuses. The factory ones are of a style I've never seen before either, they are shorter (factory on the left).

Not sure what brand they are, I had the dealer have someone put them in. Cost me $480 BTW, so if you feel comfortable doing it yourself it would save a ton. I ended up being lazy and really didn't want to take the covers off the seats in my brand new truck. I was scared I wouldn't get them back on right.

I had them put the switch in the factory location. It's a little round one with a 2 color LED. It looks a lot like the switch on the Rostra ones.

not yet. We just got back from a 2 week vacation, and have been prepping the truck/camping gear every night for next week's week long overland trip, so I have zero time. But it is next on the list! I sick of the 'monolith'.

I found what your installer used and they are available in higher amp ratings Mini ATM Pigtail Fuses Looks like a pain if the fuse blows since it looks like the wire is integrated.

Also, I stumbled into these connectors which look great too Posi-Lock

Posi-Locks are awesome. They are reusable also. I ripped a stereo out of a car I was selling and was able to reclaim all the Posi-Locks I'd used the year before.

That is exactly what I thought too. But I looked at the the fuse box diagram in the manual and that fuse location is marked as unused. So there isn't anything drawing off that fuse. I agree though, if you were going to use that as a fuse replacement it would suck!

Ryan S, isn't that acting as the fuse for your seat heater? Otherwise I would think it's directly connected unfused which would be kind of dangerous, especially for a seat heater!

Thinking about this further, if I am visualizing how it works correctly, if that fuse is inserted one way it would act a fused connection, but inserted the other way it would be unfused. Interesting.

The way it is wired it is not acting as the fuse. The wire that comes off of it goes to that heat shrunk crmip connection you can see, then to three separate inline fuses that are not in that picture (1for each seat, 1 for my CB).
