Adding aux input to 2005 JBL 6-disc

Hi everyone. I've done a search, and while the threads I've found are somewhat helpful, they're not exactly what I'm looking for.

What I want to do is be able to connect a 3.5mm aux cable to my factory head unit (JBL 6-disc w/ RDS on 2005 4Runner sport edition). I'm going to use it for an iPod/Iphone (I'm not looking for the ability to control or charge the iPod from the deck or anything like that, just a simple connection).

Has anyone ever done this? I had a Sirius radio on my 06 Tundra, and it was connected with an FM transmitter that was directly connected in-line with the radio antenna- something like this would work as well. I just don't want to go the tape deck or FM modulated route.

There's a thread here somewhere telling how to take the stock stereo apart and solder in wires for a mini phone jack but it's not for the faint of heart. Better to just get a modern head unit that has inputs. You can pickup a nice unit with both mini phone plug and USB inputs that has a 6" LCD display for playing DVD's with a backup camera input for around $180.

Yeah, ive thought about it. But i would have to get one with navigation and they start getting expensive.

Why can you not just buy something like this?

You don't need to buy the ipod or usb cables, but only attach the aux cable. Goes straight in to ur stock stereo
