Adding more seats to a non 3rd row 4th gen....

Has anybody added a jump seat/extra bench row to their 4th gen? If so please post pics if possible and what is involved in doing so. I have 2 kids, a dog, and a couple nieces/nephews, looks like I should have found a 3rd row t4r.

I think I really just need one extra seat, like a jump seat in the back, is this possible? Any info is appreciated.

To be legal in TX, maybe in California too, you would have to install seat belts on the 3rd row seats.

i did a quick search using the "search this forum" option over on the right side near the middle of the page.

typed in "aftermarket third row"

The third row on the 4th gen is pretty much useless. Access is difficult. Legroom is bad, and the seat is very low to the floor. It is only suitable for small children, but getting a kid into a child seat back there isn't easy.

If you really need a usable third row, then I suggest you get something other than a 4runner.

true, as a everyday 7 passenger vehicle i would NOT suggest it, but in a pinch it good to have instead of finding two drivers and two cars. Heck, my Volvo station wagon has the 3rd row option, used it all of 3 times in the last 2 years of ownership but when all 6 kids were in the car at the same time...they had a great time..I had a huge headache!

Difficult to use? Sure. But absolutely not useless. We use ours everytime the in laws come in to town. Highly recommend this mod.

I am looking to buy 3rd row seats including with the hardness, is it possible for the seats along with the hardness to fit on a non 3rd row.

You can't add a factory 3rd row to a non 3rd row 4runner. The rear floor section is different.. there are recesses in the floor of a 3rd row to lock the seats to the floor. The seat anchor rail had to be below the floor so when the seat locks it will be level.
