Adding PWR Seats.

How hard is this. Another 4-Runner I am looking at is a fully loaded SR5 except Sunroof and Power Seats, thought it does have leather seats. How hard is it to add a power driver seat motor and mounting bracket to the existing seat. Is this possible and what is involved to do it? Would I more or less have to buy another seat since the controls are probably built onto the seat it self?

this stuff i never really got... why spend so much time and money installing something that you DO have a function for. like manually adjusting your seat is really not a big hassle!

I know what you mean also Lee. i just figured if it was cheap and easy I would add it. The burgundy 4RNR was sold but I found a one owner-2000 SR5 fully loaded, Grn, 60,789 miles owned by a school teacher who ordered it new and always garaged. She didn't order climate control, sunroof, or power seats though. I am suppose to look at it Sunday. Just thought it may be a simple thing to add but finding a seat would be a pain most likely especially one in as good a shape as the original. I think I read that 2000 models have DTRunning Lights; is this correct and is there some sort of switch that gives the option of whether you want them on or not. I have never really cared for DTRL and don't really know how they work as far as on/off options.

you can defeat it simply by cutting 1 wire.

when you buy your runner, post asking about it. the instructions (location of the relay) are different in each year.

in a 2000, the relay is located in the engine bay, for example, whereas on my 01 its above the gas pedal.

if you found one in good condition thats been garaged (which it sounds like you did!) then go for it!

As for the DRL's, the 2000 will have them if it has ABS, no ABS no DRL's. Why would having the DRL's on bother you at all, they are unnoticeable and have been proven to make your vehicle more visible in sun glare conditions. As for the power seat you will need a new seat to make it work. My 2000 came with the base buckets and I added power leather from a limited, the rail system on the seat is completely different and definitely not easily swappable. Also you will need to provide power for the new seats, the seat belt warning plug is not enough to run the whole seat. BTW, I got my full interior, front and back seats, off ebay for 750 and a little over a grand total w/ shipping from AL to MA so they are out there if you are willing to look hard and wait for an oppurtunity.

Thanks guys, Lee you are on the ball, why are you not a MOD? As far as the DRL I will probably add Silverstars and don't want them to burn out quicker than normal. I will probably leave the seats manual so I don't have to do alot of rigging and rewiring. I thought the DRL may hae an option in the cabin as far as to have DRl on or off like some domestics but I guess not but thanks fo rthe write up. Yes it has been garaged and she said not one single ding or scratch on it. I'm hoping it is still there Sunday sinc e we both work busy schedules.

The DRL's will not affect the life of silvertstars.

My 2000 w/ silvertars and DRL's = 1 year of light

Friends 98 w/ silverstars and no DRL's = 1 year of light

Good to know Pat. I think I am getting this one if nothing happens so I will be official then. Do you use the siverstars for fog lights also? How do they look and are they bright.

the DRL's run at a lower wattage than when you turn the headlights on, so they wont effect the life of the silverstars in any noticeable way.

silverstars are sort of hit or miss anyway.. ive heard of people having them last for 4 months, others 2 years.

just make sure you DONT TOUCH THE BULB when youre installing.

when i changed my headlights (not to silverstars, but to other white bulbs -- cheapos off ebay for $8!), i used a sandwich bag as a glove, and that worked quite well.

my cheapo bulbs have been in since about july, so thats around 9 months now.

I have Silverstars in my 93 mustang and they have been in for jsut about 2 years but I have only put 1800 miles on it in 2 years, my friend has had them in his Navi for 2 years but the silverstar fog lights kept going out on him. Has or does anyone use the fogs on there runners?

fogs are very susceptible to burning out cause theyre the lowest lights to the ground...

personally, since thats the case, id buy several pairs of cheaper bulbs and change as needed.

you can get 3 times the amount of bulbs for the price of silverstars.

the headlights are like $35 a pair... mine were $8 a pair.. i could have 4 pairs of backups for the price of one set of silverstars!
