Adding SR5 flares

My 2000 SR5 came from the factory without flares. I'm not a huge fan of the naked look, plus my tires stick out slightly and constantly blast my truck with rocks and such. My question is, how much work would be involved in adding flares to my 4Runner? It seems like I read on here that there are mounts in the body under the flares, which would not be there for mine. I can't find the thread I saw that in anymore, though.

I added SR5 flares to my white 98. The fronts had places for screws, so those mounted up perfectly. They rears did not have the predrilled holes like others that come with flares would. So I used 3M double sided trim/cladding tape and it worked great. Held my flares on just fine. I pieced my set together found some from junkyards, and part outs. If you find someone selling a set it will be less work but probably more $$$. That's just my experience, i know COB added flares to his truck, not sure how he mounted them but its probably in his build somewhere. Good luck!

OP, The black skinny SR5 flares are the ones that mount under the edge of the wheel well. I installed mine with some self tapping screws. It would have been best to remove the wheel and properly drill a hole, etc.

I say the biggest problem isn't drilling the holes, it's getting the flare to sit flush against the body. Mine have all sorts of small gaps, though easily hidden with Tacoma weather stripping.

The bigger color matched flares you see require holes drilled into the body, though according to trailhead98, he's had success with double stick tape. I do also remember LINY4Runner using a cool method, OEM Toyota FIPG Silicone held his on great. (FIPG = Form in place gasket)

Very nice. Glad to hear others have successfully done this. What does the back side look like? I would assume there is plenty of room to run a strip of 3m tape, but is it open other than that?
